My tv comes on for

If you have basic knowledge of electronics and have proper tools and safety equipment, the please read below since you need to do in-depth troubleshooting since putting in new boards until the problem is fixed can be real expensive.:
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board. if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having. If you are going to DIY and have proper tools, electronics knowledge, and know safety precaution then please read on: Basic LCD monitor and TV troubleshooting guide: http://www.fixya.com/support/r5093881-lcd_flat_panel_tv_troubleshooting_guide http://www.fixya.com/support/r6150077-basic_lcd_monitors_troubleshooting http://www.fixya.com/support/r7406380-tv_training_manuals Failed TV and Monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm Learn about bad caps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Parts: www.shopjimmy.com Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/Default.aspx he can make you a set of caps. My tv smelled like plastic

Your backlight inverter board has failed. This may be due to a bad capacitor which is easy to repair, or the inverter transformer may have burned out, in which case it may be replaceable or the complete inverter board will need to be replaced.

It may have cold solder joints in the power supply, backlights inverter board, etc.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. I may have the solution to your problem.

Here was MY problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you to consider.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It will, at the very least, give you a general idea of the process. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem.

Hope this helps.

If you have any questions for me, please comment on this page. I will be happy to assist you to the best of my ability. Thanks for using Fixya.

I was watching tv the

Hi,

As you mentioned there was a ' smell ' and ' pop ' noise which confirms that there is a short circuit that have happened. Even though you had surge protector, these problems could be there ( though rare ).It seems more likely a problem with power supply board. It seems as if certain IC's were blown out.As it is only over a year old, i would advise you to ring manufacturer so that they could take care of it. You never mention as it is few days or months. Most manufacturers would repair the TV even if it's within 1 month after expiration of warranty or they would only charge for parts, if required. Again, this is completely on manufacturer. There is no hard and fast rule.

If you have experience in repairing electronics and could repair TV's, could read schematics and would be able to keep precautions, you need to open the TV and look at the power supply board. Make sure not to damage anything. More often, you would find swelled / bulged / fused / leaked capacitor. Des solder that and take it to radioshack or fry's and buy the new one. Solder the new one and it would fix the problem.

If you do not see any blown IC, revert and we could further troubleshoot that would need you to have a look at service manual as well.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My television screen comes on for about 2 seconds then goes black

Hello. this is a serious problem that even Westinghouse does not want to admit. here is a link of interest to you http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/westinghouse-lcd-tv-c63362.html

Back to your tv, if it is over 3 years old just replace it. The cost of a repair is not worth the effort. New 32 inch LCD tv's are better and cheaper than before.

Westinghouse sk-32h540s TV, VGA input, image can't center.

Hello, two things, one try using the TV with the native resolution of 1366 X 768, and secondly try updating your video card. If you are not having this issue with the TV on the other inputs than most likely it is a settings issue with the laptop. Please rate this comment if it was helpful.

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
