How old is the system?

1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
2.Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
3.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
4.Press 1 (One) to select windows XP and then hit enter.
5.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd and then press ENTER.
7.If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. 8.If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.
Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

1.Restart the computer

Look for a small switch near the actual surface and make sure it is not shut off, which disables the trackpad.

Sounds like a crashed hard drive, swap it out with a new one.

Take your old hard drive with you when you head out to buy a new one to make sure you get the same kind (they're only two kinds for the most part - IDE / PATA has 40 pins and SATA has two L shape connectors.

Download to a thumb drive on another computer then install them on the notebook.

This error means that your HD is malfunctioning (S.M.A.R.T mean Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology), You need to replace your drive, If it can still be read you must boot from a live cd or live usb an back up from there. When the HD self test throws an error like this there is not much to be done.

Burn the image (ISO) to CD.
Boot from the newly created Recovery Console BootCD
Log into the Administrator account (press 1 then press enter)
On the command prompt type: chkdsk c: /r (and then press enter) Note one space after "c:")
Once CheckDisk has finished repairing the faults, type Exit, and then Restart (remove the BootCD)

Download the UBCD and use that.

Otherwise You must boot either on/from USB DVD and using a third party boot disk, say UBCD, and use the "Tools" on that DVD or USB to format and do as you want.

the socket where the cord plugs into the back of the laptop gets wattered out and does not make a good connection when it gets this way. I suggest that not move it so much it kinda defeats the purpose of a laptop. though

your DVD drive lens needs to be cleaned by a lens cleaner CD....try it if not worked..then your lens is faulty...

you can use the windows installation cd to format the drives, also in windows you can right click on the drive and select format, note that format of C drive is not possible in windows

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor.
