Its the headphones, It happened to me a new set of headphones worked.

If it's anything like the opal M4002 then on the back of the player there will be a small hole into which you can insert a small implement (like a toothpick) and press the reset button.

There is a lock switch on the back of the player - unlock it.

This is a very common problem with the RCA Opal.
You need to goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware.

Download the firmware from there. Plug in your mp3 player. (don't worry if it cant be found bye the PC it will when the firmware installs)
After the mp3 player is plugged into the usb device of your pc install the newly downloaded firmware. And it should work fine.

This device will only play SMV files. You will need to download two free programs Any Video Converter. http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ And the other is http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm SMV converter.
Instally both programs. I use any video converter and changed it to mpeg. After the file is in mpeg then I use SMV converter. I do cutom use the largest screen format and highest on everything so its full screen. And the quailty is a heck of lot better the the easy rip free program. Give it a try and let me know if that works for you.

Make sure the lock switch on the back is in the unlocked position. For the player to say "Loading," especially the first time you plug it into the computer, is normal - your computer is communicating with the player, installing drivers, and trying to load the Easy Rip Software. If it stays on loading past 10 minutes, however, something is not right. If you have selected to open the device automatically using Windows Media Player, you are headed for trouble, especially if you have more music and other files on your computer than the mp3 player can handle. If you have accidentally done this, disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player.
If you have checked the above, and you are still having problems, disconnect the mp3 player from the computer. Hold in the power button for 10 seconds or more to reset the mp3 player. Try plugging the mp3 player into the computer again. If it stays on loading for more than 10 minutes, unplug the mp3 player, go into the settings menu and change the mode from MSC to MTP or vice versa. If it still misbehaves when you replug the mp3 player into the computer, download the latest Easy Rip software from RCA's website and update your player's firmware - take note of the section they have on Windows Vista if you have Windows Vista. i juat keep it on the charger to charge and it works again

Go to wall-mart and buy the starter kit.
It comes with usb power adapter, armband , carrying case. And also includes a wall charger.

add hardware
connect your hardware device and click "yes i have connected the hardware"
scroll down and select install new hardware device
select install hardware that i manually select from a list
scroll down to windows portable devices
and choose MTP device

Download the firmware again.
after its download get the firmware you just download and install that one. Make sure mp3 player is hooked to your pc.
Go to add hardware.
Have windows look for MTP device. while the firmware is installing.
after its installed leave it hooked to pc for about 1 hour to give it a little charge. You should see a new folder Opal.

This would be your firmware going bad.
Hook mp3 player to your usb device of your pc.
Go to the RCA website. download the firmware.

Keep it plug into usb device of pc.
Install the newly downloaded firmware you just downloaded.

Well You need to go to the rca website
Have mp3 player plugged into usb device of your computer.
Download the latest firmware for you mp3 player.
After its downloaded find the downloaded firmware file.
Then install it.

Hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds. Is one way. The other is too plug it into the usb for about 3 too five mins. Then do the power button. Mine did the same thing

Goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware for it. Install it and it should work fine. You can also try plugging it into the usb and hold the power button for 15 seconds.

I resolved my error and maybe you should try uninstall, install one more time.
For what ever reasons, I uninstalled the programs then reinstalled the program and the files are complete again.
I know I did this once before and it did not fix the problem either times so perhaps you can try it one more time.
Simply ask the RCA software to uninstall from your pc harddrive, making sure that all the files have been removed including any RCA Detective and EasyRip. Then go to the RCA website and sort through the Support and Download Updates and find the EasyRip software you can download for free from the site and follow the instructions, making sure that your player is connected to the pc while you install the software again.
