When the camera is turned

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Photos are blurred when taken.

Hi,

This is a common problem. Check the previous images saved. If even the saved images/video's looked blurred, this confirms defective LCD screen. If saved images are fine, then this is highly suggestive of faulty CCD sensor.

If that is LCD screen, it could be an expensive deal to get it replaced as compared to the cost of the product. However, if it is CCD sensor, you could contact Nikon and see, if there is any recall for it as in the past, there were certain recalls due to CCD sensor.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Pictures always come out blurry

With digital cameras, blurred photos are almost always a result of camera shake. You need to hold the camera still even after pressing the button, as there is often a short delay before the shutter fires.

Many digital cameras have a two-stage shutter press- first pressure causes the camera to focus, then the follow through pressure takes the picture. If you are rushing this, you may get unfocussed shots.

Finally, make sure that you have not left the camera in Macro mode. This is a special extreme close-up mode offered by some cameras, and it does not allow autofocus on objects at normal distances. The icon for Macro mode is a little flower.

If none of these is the problem, there may be a fault requiring service (probably not economically viable unless they will do it under warranty).

Black screen appears

Hi,

The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to Nikon service centre. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replace the lens sensor for free of cost.

Thank you

This is your camera indicating for you to set the time and date.
You should be able to do that with the up down buttons on the camera. once you set one thing, hit enter and go to the next.
That should take care of it. Make sure your battery is full charge and you finish this procedure before turning the camera off.
Your manual should indicate how to proceed exactly.

How can i download pictures to my laptop using my

You can download the current versions of all free Nikon software from the manufacturer at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer, or any other photo cataloging program.

How are you attempting the transfer?

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Memory card saying "write protected"

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
