You must have the most recent kernel, 2.4.2 or higher. You will also need specific modules for installation, they are explained below. The MT5634ZBA-USB has been tested successfully in Mandrake 8.1 and RedHat 7.2. Please read the whole document, as some steps depend on how the Linux system was built. Ditto rjivaro, except the windows emulation part. Most applications can be replaced with actual linux compatible ones, however there a some (mostly games) that can not. Wine is your friend for games except that you will have a reduction in frame-rate as the system has to convert dx to opengl and back again. Best to keep a small windows install for game playing. Non linux games anyway

Installing any os ahould not be affected by a virus. Download the iso, burn it out or flash it to usb. Boot from the disc and follow the prompts. Viola, new os and no virus.
