I would check to make sure thats what this calls for could be weak breaker

This can be confusing, but basically, you will need to get a hot wire to the GFI receptacle. If you get a wire from a switch, you need to splice into the hot wire - not the other one (which is a switch leg). You will also need to get a neutral wire to the GFI recept. You normally won't find this at a switch, because you never run a neutral to a switch. The only exception is when there's a light on the switch itself. But let's not get confused with this. There's no neutral at a switch. So your best bet would be to get your hot and neutral from another receptacle. Or, you can get your hot and neutral wire from your electrical panel. Breaker, even GFI's are designed to trip at 135% to 600% over there load rate, so not to scare you but it depends more on the wire used from the main panel to the dryer/hot tube then the breaker. A GFI's claim to fame is the speed at which it will trip if voltage is detected on the ground side of the breaker. So to answer a question with a question, Can you overload a GFI without tripping it, Yes you can, just be careful the life of your hot tube motor and heater could be in danger if you overload the circuit.

Everything above tells me this is 120V unit...if thats the case a single pole breaker is sufficient. Also by what you have written, a 15 amp breaker should suffice.

load neutral connects to the neutral binding screw on the GFI, do NOT connect the load neutral to the neutral bar.

gfci's are designed to trip if they receive voltage on there ground/neutral side, therefore my vote is for Smithbrother I would say there is probably a partial short somewhere in you system.

I have seen circuit breakers trip at a lower amperage. It seems that they are weak. Generally circuit breakers run with 80% load with no problem, in your case 24 amps. I would replace the circuit breaker.
