Taking apart the hand held remote won't serve any real purpose as none of the parts inside are replaceable. Since you have 3 different units, with 3 different hand held remote. I'm wondering, if perhaps, you're using the wrong remote on that one unit. As each one has a different remote code.
In addition, I have learned from experience, that if the display screen on the hand held works, the problem is not in the hand held. Now, that's not to say, Operator Error can't play a role in it. But, most times, it's the receiver in the unit,that may be causing the problem. Or the hand held is to far away or something is blocking the signal in between.

Almost every appliance we sell, has a radio frequency remote control. The most problems we incur is with weak or dead batteries or operator error. The problem with batteries is that you don't now how long they sat in a warehouse, before making to a retail outlet and then how long they sat on the shelves there, before they were sold. They may have enough power to activate the handheld remote, but not enough to transmit a strong signal. So, check the strength of the new batteries you installed.

Generally, they are operated by a remote control (similar to a television), although some units do have a wired wall control option as well. The indoor and outdoor unit has sensors that measure temperature (to control the operation of the mini-split) and (once the remote is set) the sensors control the system until it reaches the set point set on the remote.

There is no problem the unit is cooling on ly and is not a heat pump so it can't heat.

This is how air conditioners work. They transfer heat from (usually) hot places to cooler places. When working in the opposite direction, the machine is attempting to pump heat from the cool place (making it colder) to the warm place (making it warmer). Flushing the frozen condenser with cold water adds more heat to defrost the condenser, but it will refreeze when you try extracting more heat from the cold place.

Hi Emanuel, Your out door unit could be very dirty or the outdoor unit temperature sensor is out of position.

Dear Friend! Before recharging gas.did you check leak testing? If not, again you will same problem.

And some more reasons for frost up:
1. Indoor coil & air filter dust blocked-clean it. 2.Less rpm of indoor fan motor- replace capacitor or motor.

Not sure what the smell...smells like.  My guess is dirt or dust near the heating elements.  These will cause a burning smell.  Sometimes insects even get into the act..building webs.
You will have to clean that area out...sometimes a large blower or vac can dislodge the dust.

In Auto mode, and jet cool or fast cool (if option is there in your remote), you can't change speed. Keep cool mode and then press fan again and again still you get required speed. Suppose, as you said beep sound is there when you select speed, check related speed terminal in PCB. If power is there, winding open in motor. If no power, replace/repair PCB.
