If it is a screw drive like mine all I needed to do was lube up the screw with a product called "fluid film" and all was ok. The screw was binding making the sensor think the door was blocked and it would go back up.

No you do not. You are supposed to charge it for 24 hours before the first initial use. After that you are supposed to charge after it using it to jump start a vehicle or every 30 days if not used at all.You are supposed to charge until the two red and one green LED lamps are lit SOLID. The unit should be fully charged once the LEDs are lit solid. Unplug the unit and put back into storage until needed. Again if not used for extended periods of time the unit should be charged ever 30 days.
