Just use the six pins that line up with the connector and leave the other three alone, starting from the top of the board.

You can NOT bypass the thermister on a Sta-Rite heater. It needs a value to compare with on the control board. If you happen to have a fixed resistor available you can use one to test the heater. 7.5k ohms should work.

check for blown fuses also check the thermisters they are also in safety circuit check to see if 24 volts at brown wire on gas valve using yellow as ground

It could just be the readout that's failed but there's no way of knowing unless you know someone else who has the same unit and you can try their readout.

The 42001-0096S has been replaced 42002-0007S as detailed on the following page where you can also purchase a replacement readout.

These are probably the cheapest you'll find as most places are quoting $330 for the PCB.

In the long run it's probably worth just replacing both parts with new units.

The SERVICE SYSTEM light indicates that there is insufficient

water flow to the heater. If the pump is operating, this

usually indicates that the filter and/or skimmers should be

cleaned (some filters may require backwashing). If the light

remains on after the filter/skimmers have been serviced,
the system should be checked by a qualified service technician. (from the manual))

If you clean the filters, and know the pump is pushing enough water, replace the water pressure switch, or test it first by jumping the 2 switch wires.

If this still is not the issue everything else is way to complicated to relay through an online media. It would be best to call a certified PENTAIR technician to solve this issue. As these heaters are very proprietary and their codes can mean many things, make sure you get somebody with experience on this model.
