If it will start on choke and die when choke is taken off...the carb needs to be taken off and cleaned. The main jet in the carb is probably clogged.

I am having a similar problem with my husqvarna. What we are finding is that there is a valve that is sticking open, and after it cools down it unsticks, hence being able to start it again. Mine is sticking and staying stuck more often and has to be manually unstuck. I will post more as I work on it and have more details.

sounds like it may need the carb clening out, but it could be the auto choke not closing when cold. there was an issue with some of the early auto chokes on the gcv135/160 engines so check to see if the choke flap is in the closed position when starting from cold, run the engine for approx 10-15 minutes and see if the choke flap has opened fully.leave it to go cold and see if the choke flap has returned to the closed position

Whoa, if you're even close to attempting this, stop and don't, bring this to a shop or find someone who actually knows what they're doing before you destroy whatever engine it is you're working on.

The fuel inlet tube is most likely clogged with fuel varnish or debris. Remover the carb bowl and slide a thin rod or paper clip up through tube and clean out fuel passage. Spray carb clean up through tube to complete cleaning. Repeat this at the end of the season and then remove gas from tank or use fuel stabilizer available at WalMart or any auto parts store.

this link shows how to rebuild a carb. I suggest cleaning the jets before you try anything else, if you havent done so already. At the bottom of the carb there is a not that holds the bowl in place. Remove yhe nut and bowl. In the nut there are tiny holes, clean them out using a wire (bread tie will work) you can also use an air compressor, A shot of carb cleaner wont hurt. I believe you may be referring to the bowl on the carburetor, and your model number is something like HU700F, HU700L, etc... If you could include a picture of the mower and a picture of the part that is leaking, i can verify the model and part you need..
