Normally, if the commutator is damaged / scratched the motor's servicibility is suspect.
A couple of options.
1) You can try to sand down (lightly!) the commutator with a very fine (1200+ grit) sand paper. It is crucial that all segments be sanded the same amount so that the commutator maintains a cylinder shape. If it is out of round by a few thousandths of an inch, it will cause increased brush wear, arcing, and eventually brush failure.
2) Take the motor to an electric motor / alternator - starter rebuild shop. They already are setup to do what you need to do, and they may be able to point you in the direction of an alternate source for the brush holder assembly.
