Came up totally empty on the Internet searching for a video or even a description of how to replace this cable - so had to go blind into it. The top end of the cable installation is pretty easy to figure out. The trick, if you wanna call it that, is that to get into the lower end of the cable installation (under the engine) you have to have the mower on its side and remove the blade and the black plastic housing just above it (more than I had bargained for when I ordered the replacement cable, which comes with no directions at all). Two 1/2" nuts and you have the blade off; two hex-head 3/8" screws and you can just snap off the plastic housing. (Hint: The square, black plastic block holding the metal sleeve on the cable? Don't loosen it all the way cuz it's a bear putting back on. It's just a press-fit to hold the sleeve, so loosen it just enough to push the sleeve out of the block and then using a screwdriver pry the slot open enough for the cable itself to slide out.) Sounds pretty simple, huh? Unless, of course, you're going into it blind :)

I would suspect the right wheel motor is barely working (or not at all) and forward motion is from the left only so any attempt to turn left is problematic since the right wheel motor has little or no power. If you can get all wheels off the ground you can test and compare wheel motors.

ZTR mowers will kill the engine if the operator seat is not occupied and the brake is released. Likely you have a failed seat switch but could be other... it will depend on the particular Toro model.

Try starter fluid to determine whether its a fuel problem or spark. Remove air filter cover and filter and spray a short burst (about 1 second) of fluid into carb throat (or as close as possible behind baffle C) and promptly pull starter cord. If engine fires and runs for a second or two then its a fuel/choke problem (compression is ok). If doesn't run, then more likely no spark but could still be a fuel or compression issue.

Hopefully it is off by now. If the kill switch does not work then take off the air filter and put your hand over the opening or pull the plug wire or put the choke on full.
