I would assume you need to hold the spinner from moving when removing the screw. If the screw threads are stripped and it turns but won't back out see if you can grab the screw head with pliers or vise-grips. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer. The warranty was 1 year. If you are at 13 -14 months, I would ask Flowtron for some help in getting it replaced. Sometimes manufacturers are willing to split the cost of a repair that is near the warrany end to help keep a customer satisfied. It is worth trying.

sounds like you have an arc occuring. arcs occur for one reason only, somewhere, there is a current being transfered back to its source. check your power outlet for proper wire configuration and voltage. should be anywhere between 108-122V (or very close to that) if doubled then you have to reconfigure the breaker panel to cut the voltage in half. If all looks good, then you have a defective piece and they owe you your money back. somewhere in the internal workings there was either a wire or component that wasn't properly insulated or a regulator that isn't configured properly. DO NOT USE THIS MACHINE!!. turning in on briefly for testing is one this, but running it for work can be very dangerous.
I recommend getting your receipt and calling them for a replacement. If you purchased it within the last 30 days you can bring it back to the place of purchase.

I just replaced my Flowtron cutting string. That screw in the middle comes off if you turn it hard enough. Then the spool lifted off. I took it to the hardware store to get the right gage string, and installed it like the old. It was curly though, and got caught under the spool when I used it. Then the motor quit and won't start. So I just posted that problem. ~ CarolK

www.Flowtron.com is the website for this company. I saw some replacements strings Part# LER100 for about 5 dollars. I did some additional looking but could not find a size on the string but hope finding the website helps.

I was able to get a replacement 5 amp MB-1 push to reset circuit breaker for my Flowtron LE-900 directly from Snap Action http://snapaction.net/ for no replacement cost and no shipping/handling cost. No one at Snap Action enquired as to what it was for, age, warranty, etc. (their MB1 product description indicates it to have a lifetime guarantee). I just had to mail them the defective original breaker - took about 2 weeks to receive the replacement.

I found a reset switch on the leaf-chipper. I was then careful to fill it more slowly, and to keep out sticks and clumps of wet leaves.
