Craftsman 3 gal. Air Compressor, 1.5 hp, Horizontal k - Page 3 Questions & Answers
12 gal 2hp instruction manual
You didn't give your model number so here's a possibility: If it's vibrating that much it's usually a good indicator the air pump connecting rod is broke. If it's been in storage it's possible the oil evaporated enough or it didn't have enough in it that it didn't lubricate the con-rod bearings. It would have started the first time but as heat built up in the bearing areas it could have seized up when it was shut off or broke when it tried to restart. You'll have to take the air pump apart to verify what's broke and what's damaged and what has to be replaced. Most Craftsman parts are only available through Sears (
www.searspartsdirect.com).
Oil shooting out of cap
Two probably causes are:1. Too much oil in the crank case. Compressors don't have a lot of oil in them and the oil level must be at the full mark on the dip stick or sight glass. Over filling it will make the motor work harder and some oil will get forced out the vent cap.2. You may have compressed air going into the crankcase causing oil to get blown out the vent cap. This occurs if compressed air is getting past the piston, either through a hole in the piston or past the rings because either the rings or cylinder are damaged.
My craftsman 3gal. compressor starts and run but
Is the petcock down below open or closed? If open, then screw it closed. Also, is the compressor portion connected to the motor working as it should? As the motor reciprocates, it should operate the compressor piston that pumps air pressure into the tank. Maybe something is broken there.
What kind of oil do i need for a craftman 1 hp 3
For warm climate, use 30wt non detergent oil (lowest price $3). Med priced oil ($5), use compessor oil sold at Lowes or any major center store including Wal Mart. Compressor oil is special blend for higher temperature range (continuous use). High price oil, synthetic compressor oil works for heavy duty use under severe conditions (also sold at major lumber centers, cost about $8~18). For lite duty, any oil that you have handy will work fine (check oil before every use). Good luck
What level should the oil
Your oil level should be right in the middl of the sight glass as per the type of oil I'm sure Craftsman has there brand of oil they suggest. But any good quality compressor oil will work.
