Kodak digital camera M1073 IS
First make sure that the camera has fresh or fully charged batteries installed. If a battery swap or charge doesn't cure the problem, remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera
with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning
with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue
that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the
batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists,
check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

M1073 not turning on
Your fix could be as simple as cleaning the camera's battery contacts,
or it could be something more serious and expensive. First try
removing the batteries and cleaning the camera contacts with a small
metal brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper. If that doesn't fix the
problem, check the Kodak
Help Center by clicking on the link below. It uses a simple Q&A
format to diagnose problems and propose solutions.

My camera won't stay turned on
Its possible that dirt, sand had got stuck between your lens barrel and the body and that why the lens is giving you problems.
You can try some of the following solutions to help you out:
1).Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fully charged batteries back in and turn the camera on. if it doesnot work then,
2: Remove the batteries again, as also remove the memory card. Then install the newly charged batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life.
3: Insert the cameras Audio/Video (AV) cable, and turn the camera on. Inserting this cable ensures that the camera's LCD screen remains off during the start process. Thus extra battery power is available to the camera's lens motor during start up. This extra power can be useful to overcome any grit or sand particles that may be jamming the lens.
4: Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat” setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum
5: Repeatedly tap the padded/rubber usb cover with the intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens. Other variations include hitting a side of the camera against the palm of your hand. Dont try very hard please.
Try the above and let me if its any help.
If the above does not help. Then you would need to take it to the nearest service center.
Kodak Z981 -- mode dial issue
I have a Z981 myself. I just set my camera as you did (to "A") but did not experience the issue you mention?
Just to be clear, remember that setting the camera to "A" means "Aperture priority", meaning that you can control the lens aperture (with the "jog dial" on the top of the camera) and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed to create a proper exposure. "A" does NOT mean automatic exposure control. You must use "P" (Programmed) mode to make the camera make all the decisions about shutter speed and lens aperture.
I am including a web link to the User Guide for the Z981. You might want to revisit the Guide to make sure you are using the correct settings for your pictures.
BTW, I like my Z981 quite a bit, especially the zoom. I've taken some great pictures with it.

A hanging diaphragm motor !!! or autofocus motor !!! dirt inside ? the first things that will have a time out that will not give a message in a display by simply budget cams
I have no experience in photo digital cameras but i know that a lens will first autofocussing the picture and all, yes all arming course is timed to all electrical components. but if the motor of the focussing can have a problem but also the auto diaphragm motor could be i know for shure there will be the cause of failure to search , 20 years ago i have repaired video camcorders repaired and Samsung have had that same problem ,its a failure in timing shutt-off !! if you have warranty on it GO FOR IT . i think there are no people or hard to find to repair it under 60% of the replacement value. or it is above the replacement value marketing technical sollutions is trade-in rebate !!
Obtain owners manual
Kodak has a "resources" link and you can probably find your manual there in downloadable PDF for free. You can also Google your make/model of camera and see if it shows up. I searched for this one as an example...below.
Hope this helps. Mike

M5370. How do I get screen repaired?
Check your local professional camera repair service. Usually, the diagnosis is free or rolled into the fee to repair it. Otherwise, contact your camera's manufacturer's service and repair or warranty service. If your camera is past the warranty, they still will probably fix it or refer you to one of their authorized repair centers.

Won't format an sd card
Check the slider isn't set to lock so you cannot delete or alter SD card. It's on the edge of the SD card.
Move it as far as it will go in opposite direction to what it is now.
