If there's data (items) on your TomTom that you can remove/delete, like music, photo's, images, (useless/not needed) maps, favorites, etc. it will give you more "disk" space to work with. You can back up the data (using the TomTom HOME application) before you remove the items from your device.

A likely cause is that the battery is "dead" ... i.e. no longer holds a charge. The GPS runs on battery power, even if it is plugged in. It will work even if the battery holds a (small) charge. But if the battery doesn't a charge anymore, the device will not start up, even when it is plugged into a power source. If this is the case, you'll want to change the battery.

If this is a firmware update, use MyTomTom application and delete the firmware and try again.

Take it outside if you are trying it indoors. Sometimes it will not recognise that satellites are there until the car is moving. My Tom Tom One sometimes does that.

You can use the car adapter, or you can connect it to a USB port on a computer. You have to let it charge for a few hours.

On the back, where the mount goes will be a small button, press this in with a pin or such like, this will reset it

download tomtom home from www.tomtom.com install your cradle after the download then your tomtom and with a bit of luck, the update section will automatically select the updates you need. good luck

When you choose a voice on your tomtom device, you will need to select a voice with the word 'computer' next to gender of the voice you select.

this will activate two option on the next screen allowing you to tick read street names.

To make a long story short, the problem was with the map that is stored on the computer from downloading the latest map guarantee (2 1/3 years ago). In my case, this is the same map as is on the GPS, but it is not complaining about the map on the GPS. If this happens, there are several things that can be done:

1. Accept the message whenever it appears and go on with what you were doing since at least most functions of Home appear to work correctly in spite of it saying that it can't complete the task.

2. If you have a backup of the previous version of TomTom Home, replace the updated version in the Applications folder with the backup version. This will return behavior to what it was before the update, without the error messages.

3. Remove the map folder (e.g., USA___Canada) from your Documents->TomTom->HOME->Download->complete->map folder. You may want to save this someplace so that you can put it back when TomTom releases an update to Home that works correctly.
