Normally, if you have a cable with USB connection for you device, the computer will automatically discover the device after it is plugged into the computer - plug and play. Allow Windows to load the driver and wait for it to tell you it is ready for use. Then check "My Computer" and look for the recorder icon. If the icon is visible, double click it and open the audio files you want to transfer to the computer. It's just a matter of cut and paste or copy and paste to your desired location in your computer.

The ERR indicator is only active if the DVR detects errors related
to decoding of video/audio. These errors are due to discontinuities in
the received or recorded file data.

Please download
Pandora Recovery software (its totally free) and install in computer, open Pandora Recovery program, plug Olympus Digital Voice Recorder Vn-3100PC in PC and click on Surface Scan option of Pandora program, it will recover deleted audio files in Olympus Digital Voice Recorder Vn-3100PC.

Olympus Support if required for files transferring to computer.

Every time I press PLAY
Have you attempted to change the batteries on the device? Just leave it the batteries out of the player for a good couple minutes to allow everything to reset, then attempt a new pair altogether. Then attempting switching on the HOLD switch and then back off, this will "reset" button functionality as well. Then attempt to play, and whenever you try to play attempt to press play multiple times to see if it appears to be changing the playback speed, which is what should happen. If it doesn't appear to be doing anything then something has happened to the player hardware here. Attempt to skip around the files, using the >>' and '
Seems like the player may be having actual hardware problems though, but try all those things and let me know for sure.
Also, how old is this player?

I had the same problem with XP.
Find(go online), download, and install Digital Wave player.
Then go to Olympus site and find and install Digital wave player update 2.1.4. That should take care of it.
