On my HD Tv, I have to press the "Input" button on the remote - and that displays a list on the screen.... Aux, TV, PC, Game, HDMI. Find the equvalent button on your TV Remote and select the HDMI port as the "Input" and you should be good to go.

I agree that you're having a grounding problem concerning the built in mic. This could be caused by a cracked or broken solder joint on the circuit board, or ribbon connector, if used, but usually condenser mics are wired. You'll have to get in there and look around carefully for the problem, or workaround it by using the external mic.
One more thing to check is that the jack for the external mic is good, and it's solder connections, since in it's "open state", the contacts have to be short-circuited to the internal jack assembly.
Anyway, it's probably some physical problem, versus software, so keep investigating that route.
