Use the Garmin Express program from Garmin. Down load and install the program, then connect your GPS to your PC. The program will identify your GPS and tell you of any available map and software updates.

FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps or firmware.

To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
First you have to set up an account at Garmin using the serial number on your GPS. Once you do that you can download firmware update for free.
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
By the way, the correct Garmin approved power OR download cables are a must!!

You have to change your search region on the address page, upper right hand corner.

Connect to your PC and go online to Garmin.com. They will check your GPS online and let you know of any updates you need.

If you purchased the onetime or Lifetime map update just run Garmin Express, otherwise you may need to purchase those or plan on replacing the Garmin Device. If something happened to the original maps that were on there and you are too cheap to buy new ones, there is no way to load back on those old map files

flip locking flap on connector away from the gold pins. Slide the ribbon cable into the connector on the side with the gold pins as far as it will go. The ribbon goes face down with its gold pins facing down. Then using two fingers flip the locking flap down and toward the ribbon cable. It should click. Be careful, if you snap the flap it is game over.

• Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol bottom right of the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP) It might take a little trial and error if you don't speak Thai but it should be possible.
• Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol)
• Press VOICE (The lips symbol)

This brings you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press each in turn and change each to English.

Here is what you need to do to update the map your Garmin nuvi 200; first make sure the unit is fully charged, then go to the Garmin web site and register your product. Next download Garmin Updater and connect your nuvi with a USB cable directly to your computer and not thru a USB hub. Let the update go directly to the GPS and not a folder. If its a registered unit, you can go to Garmin.com and get it free.
It would not give you updated maps for free though (unless you bought the lifetime maps)

Depending on how long ago you got the maps you may be able to download them again.

1. Go to www.garmin.com and log into myGarmin.
   
2. When you're logged in click on the myMaps tab
3. There you will see the maps you bought and under them the word "Details" in small blue writing. There may also be a message to say that there's an UPDATE AVAILABLE
   
4. Click on DETAILS and this will bring you to a screen where you get the option to download the maps again for a limited length of time.
   

If the time limit has passed your only option is to buy an update. To do this go back to where it said UPDATE AVAILABLE and click on it. Follow the prompts.

go to Tools....Settings .... System.... Maps... on the bottom of screen Map Info

press it you will see a checkmark in the map it is using, you must remove it and select your SD card map

you can only have one selected at a time..

I have the same problem. Works fine on it's own, but when it is plugged in to the charger it goes to a black screen with a computer symbol. I thought that it was to tell me to update the system as it is just over 1 year old. But not sure. I then have to keep on unplugging it and plugging it back in. (comes on while plugged in randomley). Hope we get some feed back as I need the garmin all day every day.

Connect to a computer with your usb cable. Use the safe disconnetion function on you computer (one of the small icons on the down right side of the screen toolbar).

Plug it to your power charger (connected to the el-net, of course). After the map loading has completed and you can start using it, unplug from power. A dialog box will pop up and ask you either to turn it off or to continue using it on. Choose to turn it off.

You will not be able to turn it completely off as long as it's connected to either a computer or a charger.

or you on/off push button is not working and needs to be repaired.

On my nuvi 200 the push button is a bit loose, and it easly turns on when I carry it in my pocket. Some adhecive tape will keep the button in place.

You have to use a car charger with sufficient power capacity for your Nuvo 200.
I've used a mini USB car charger that came with my e-trex, but it works only some times when I do plug/unplugging during map loading (manipulating the computer mode setting). So, I bought a HTC mini USB care charger, and know the problem is solved. Another alternative is buy from Garmin Store, the type they recommend.

Press Tools, press Settings, press Maps and press Map Info. The map name should be displayed with a tick beside it to show it's selected. If there's no tick press the map name and the tick shoule appear. This should solve the problem if the map is installed correctly.

This is a common problem with the Garmin 200 series of satnavs. It's caused by the mini USB plug of the power lead not being fully pushed in to the back of the satnav. Because of the way it's made it feels like it is fully in but it's not. Push it in further and it should be ok.
