Hi Jamie. this is all i could find. This is a relatively common problem and will require some dis-assembly of the camera to resolve. This is not a repair that I would recommend a homeowner attempt. Yes the tape can be saved without damage. There are a number of "safeties" built in to the mechanism to prevent potential damage to the tape and this is what is causing the current problem. The camera is detecting a problem that could potentially cause the tape to be damaged. The most common being that the camera is not detecting tape movement (rewind operation to put the tape back into the cartridge during an unload) so that it thinks that the tape is still loaded and won't release the carrier. Unless car is more than 10 years or so old there is no such thing as a free shop/service manual. If you spilled water on unit an did not wat about a week for it to dry out you have toasted the electronics and now that is why you get no turn on. Time to go shopping. Repair not cost effective.

Sharp VL- MX7 works fine but when I insert a cassette the unit will not close . Any suggestions

Just spoke to Samsung tech support 1-877-213-1222. They said you need the remote. Press up, right 533 several times and it will ask you on the screen to reset to defaults. If this doesn't work then you'll have to send the unit in for repair. There has never been a firmware update for this device so I wouldn't waste the money if the reset didn't work. Samsung DVR's have gone downhill sharply in quality over the last 5-6 years.

Try another SD card. Try formatting the card before putting it in the camera. Make sure all the contacts for the SD card are clean.
