Camera suddenly wont focus and goes to full zoom

This is most likely a defective zoom rocker switch assembly. This will require major disassembly to repair and can usually be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Works from mains but not from battery

Hello Lorch and welcome to Fixya.

There are a number of things that can be causing this problem so lets start with the easiest one's and see where we end up.

So the first thing to do is to test the battery. Beg , borrow or buy a voltmeter (it really is a handy tool) and test the voltage of the battery. You should be getting about 7.5V on the battery and anything less than 7V I would say that this is probably the problem.

Okay , so if the battery checks out fine , the next step is the contact between the camera and the battery. Using a pencil eraser , wipe the contacts of the camera as well as the battery clean and try using the camera again. Even if the camera does not work , try holding your ear up to it and switch it on to listen if you can hear anything.

If neither of these work , please supply me with the following info for me to better assist you :

  1. How old is the camera and the battery?
  2. How often do you use the camera?
  3. Have you had any repiars done to the camera in the past?
Get back to me with that info and I will see what I can do for you.

Kind Regards
StephanSA

When I use the DC adapter the camcorder works but

The issue is probably a contact issue and the batteries are just not charged at all ..or even if charged don't make contact so that they deliver power ..so ..check the battery compartment and see if there is something obviously wrong ..like a loose or broken contact ..if you do not see you should have it checked professionally cause in this case the issue is on board level and I dont think is indicated to mess with it

I erase my video on my camcorder how can i recover

You can recover the deleted video but it's not 100% sure unless those deleted videos are not fully overwritten(if you continue to take more video with your JVC camcorder).

First of all, DO NOT take any more videos with the memory card or stick that you want to recover from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of video recovery.

Then take some video recovery software to see if you can recover some or all of your deleted videos. Take the software and see?

If you are running Windows, turn to this video photo recovery software.
If you are running Macintosh, refer to this Mac data recovery program.

Just install the program on your computer, then connect your cam memory card and start to the scanning process.

Lastly you should remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your Nikon memory card until you can recover your pictures to safely!

Happy the holiday! Greetings

Ive had my camcorder for about 2 years and has

it is your button. More than likely there, at some time in the past, has gotten dirt under the switch somehow, and is causing it to not make the connections when you press it.
