Parallel set on how can i get it off

Parallel Set indicates that the CS5121 thinks that another extension is in use on the phone line. First check that no other phones are off their hook. (I have a few that can be tricky to hang up.) If you have no other extensions or if they are on hook, then you need to check if the problem is with your VTech phone or with your phone line. For diagnostics, I like to use an old corded phone. First try a new telephone cord (RJ-11) to the base of your CS5121. Then if the problem persists, try the new phone cord with the test phone. Listen for a normal dial tone. If you hear a fast busy signal or no dial tone, try the test phone at a different jack on that phone line (if you have one). If you still do not have a normal dial tone, find where the telephone service comes into your building. Open the service box and identify the type of connection. If you are lucky, the service box has RJ-11 jacks. Try your test phone there. If you can't test the phone line or the problem persists, contact your telephone company. They will test the line and repair any outside problem for free. If it is an inside wiring problem, inspect the wires that are in the open for damage. If only one jack is the problem, open the face plate and check for loose wires. There are two types of connections in telephone faceplates: screw terminals or punch down jacks. The wires need to be stripped (enough to go under the screw) and then secured by the screw for the first type. For a punch down jack, you will need a tool to secure the wires. The tool is available at many home improvement stores in the wiring section. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for the wiring order for an RJ-11 jack. If the problem is inside the wall, you may want to get a professional to fix the problem. Your telephone company will do this for a fee. If you have a DSL filter as part of your phone line, you may need to replace this. (At my house this is part of the outside wiring and gets fixed by the phone company. My sister has the filter as part of the inside wiring and has to fix it herself.) If only your CS5121 has a problem, try removing the battery pack from the handset. Next unplug the telephone cable and the power adapter from the base. Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, as well. Wait a few minutes, then reconnect the power and phone line cord. Then reconnect the handset battery. Test your phone again. If it still gives you a problem, contact Vtech for service if it is under warranty. These phones are not user serviceable. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Can not tune the ringer on

You should be able to change the ringer settings in two ways when the handset is not in use. 1) Press and hold the Volume up/Down arrows on the handset. The handset should show the current ringer setting (High, Low, Ringer Off). Press Select. The current setting should flash and you will hear the current volume (if the ringer is on). Use the up/down arrows to select your desired setting; the phone should give a ring. Then press Select to confirm. Again the phone should ring. 2) Press Prog. Use the up/down arrows to select Ringer Volume. Then press Select and use the up/down arrows to chose a new volume. Press Select to confirm. If your phone still does not ring, there are items to check. Try a new telephone line cord and make sure that the base is plugged into a working outlet. Move closer to the base. Make sure that you are away from other electronics that could interfere. Check that you do not have too many devices plugged into your phone line. Each one should have an REN (ring equivalence number). The total REN for all devices should be 5 or less; disconnect the other extensions/devices and test again. Make sure that the phone is providing a dial tone and a test phone will ring when dialed. (I like to use an old corded phone for testing.) If a test phone won't ring, you have a wiring problem. See additional trouble-shooting information below. Remove the battery in the handset and then reconnect it. Wait for the handset to synch with the base and try again. If you have a DSL filter, try replacing it. The manual for the CS5121 is available from V-Tech here: http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/product-detail/?event=ehCatalog.productDetail&ProductID=55#documents . Phone line testing: Using a test phone with a new line cord, check for dial tone and ring at the first jack. If your test phone rings, then the problem is the handset. Move to another jack on the line and test again. If you get a ring here, the first jack or the wiring to the jack has a problem. If there is no ring, find where your service comes in. Open the box and check the type of connection. If you have a relatively new phone service, you'll find an RJ-11 jack. Plug in your test phone and check for dial tone and ring. If it doesn't work or there is no RJ-11 jack, contact your service provider. They can test the line and will repair any outside problems for free. If the problem is inside, you will need to look at all the exposed wiring for damage. If only the one jack is bad, open it up and check that the wires are properly connected. There are two types of jacks: one secures the conductors with screws, the other is a keystone. The keystone jacks require a punch down tool to press in the conductors. This punchdown tool is available from many home improvement stores in the wiring section. This site has a picture of how the conductors should be connected: http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx . If the handset is bad, you can try a replacement handset, if available. If the phone is under warranty, contact V-tech. Otherwise decide if it is worth servicing, these phones were not meant to be user serviced. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Yes, although if they are the same frequency there will most likely be interference. If you can change the channel(s) and/or operating frequencies you could try that.

HI I have a problem

Most likely this is just "bleed" over interferance from another cordless phone on the same frequency and/or channel. For starters I recommend changing whichever you can in respect to these to see if this fixes the issue. You might have to change them a few times to find a good setting without the issue.

This could be a case of lines being crossed anywhere from the wiring at your phone all the way to the phone company. If you live in an apartment environment it is possible for it to be crossed with a neighbors line. Although less likely, it could even be crossed wires from different houses. This could also involve the phone companies wiring anywhere down to their main connections.

Hope this helps...
