Why are my pictures over exposed?

Hard to answer with such limited information on your settings and what you're shooting but often it's because the camera settings are on Manual and not Auto. It could also be a setting in one of the other exposure options in your camera.

What kind of memory card do I use

You may use any SD card up to 2GB in size (4GB if you can find any). Make sure you get an SD card and not an SDHC card, as the latter are electronically incompatible and will not work. The brand and speed won't make much difference, though a faster card may download faster to your computer if you use a compatible card reader. I'd also stick with the major brands, such as SanDisk, PNY, and Lexar.

I used to always upload

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

I need the settings for my camera to get perfect

The settings depend on what you want the picture to say to the viewer. The best settings for a landscape picture won't be the best settings for a portrait, for example.Your local library should have some books on introductory photography. They will explain what the different settings do, and when you might want certain settings for certain types of photographs.
