You may have a defective cartridge. I'd take them back to where you bought them for an exchange.

This solution is taken from the HP website.

Follow these steps to print on a CD or DVD.

1. Make sure that the CD/DVD tray is completely closed (completely inserted into the product).
   NOTE: Make sure that the side of the tray that holds the CD/DVD is inserted into the printer first.
2. In HP Photosmart Essential, click the Print tab.
3. Click Printer Settings and then click Advanced to open the printer properties.
4. In the properties, click the Features tab.
5. In Paper Type , select Printable CD 120mm .
6. In Source , select the CD/DVD tray .
7. Save the settings and then again attempt to print on the CD or DVD.

How would it? It's a printer not a scanner/printer!

When you turn off the printer unplug it from power and the computer for a few minutes. Plug only the power back in and turn it on. Also consult the manual to find out how to "reset" your printer.

You should try to verify if the cartridge is correctly put on the bay. If this not work you can try to clean the metal plates with a sheet of white paper and alcohol.

it could be that you did not use your printer for a longer period of time, the cartridge may be dry. Nevertheless, you can put one drop of some alcohol on the ink head. For this, you have to unmount it and take it out of the printer. Then wipe the head.
If you do not want to peform the first step, then look if there is a Cleaning or Deep Cleaning function in the HP printing software.

If you remove the front cover you will see the roller please check is it one from them if yes just place it accordingly the other ones

Hello.
Lift the cover from your right while being in front of the printer. Leave it powered on.
You are going to see the cartridges coming in the middle. Here you can remove your cartridges by pressing on top & pulling it at the same time. To replace, just reverse the steps.
