Hitachi EC12 Portable Electric 2hp Air Compressor, Oil Lubricated - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Hitachi EC12 won't refill air after initial startup
hi there,
of course comparative cost buying and repairing make a cost reduction.if your compressor run smooth but tripping, make sure where on the right path of diagnosing of your compressor,we can check if the motor or compressor is shutting off the unit.disconnect the belt from pulley of the motor to compressor, run the motor if still tripping w/o load its better if you have calmp ammeter test,to check the current rating,if it is tripping motor is deffective replace the bearing.f motor is fine sr till tripping check the compressor also the crankcase bearing, replace worn out bearing.have a nice day dont forget to fix my rate.thanks a lot.
Pump humms and barely turns. Fan blade caught wire
hi there!
short circuited at start damage motor compressor
if you have a service center for motor compressor have checked this one, motor compressor has thermal overload protection mostly on single phase motor inside the motor,in the absence of overload protector the winding of motor on start and running maybe shor circuited.this should be rewind by motor rewinder.check the cost of motor rewind to a brand new motor.have choose n it.have a nice day fix my rate.
My compressor turns on and hums for 30 secs. and
Sounds like the pump is siezed or the starter capacitor has burnt out. I would try to get to the armature on the motor and see if you can turn it by hand.
If you can't turn it, remove the head of the pump to see if the valves are ok and that nothing is jamming the piston from moving ( rust, broken rings, bits of valve ).
If the piston is ok, it may be a siezed bearing.
Happy hunting
My EC12 will not start. No sound, when trying to
hi there,
in that case totally busted, there are motor protection
should be checked if this are open.
1.check the source of current on circuit breaker using multi tester.if there is source or voltage supply.if nothing voltage supply reset breaker.
2.if current is available on circuit breaker check the overload protection relay if there is reset over load protection.try to power on.
3.check the pressure switch if open,it always normally close meaning the contact-or is closed if busted, replace pressure switch.
4.if still not work pull out motor and check this to electric motor service center.
5.check also the mechanical parts by cracking
flywheel pulley of the compressor.if no rotation
on flywheel pulley have check on this.if no motion it affects the motor protection.
fix my rate and have a nice day thanks a lot.
Air leaking from oil fill tibe
Your check valve is stuck open allowing the air in the tank to flow back into the head. It's usually located on the tank side and can be disassembled and cleaned
Just follow the largest hose from your compressor to the tank and you will see it.
My unit has low hours but has aquired a new
it sounds like there is a problem with the velve block in the compressor's head if the inlet velve stays open a little it takes for ever to pump up and then the comprest air leaks back out have a look at the head velves first,,, the head bolts are not very tight so dont go using a bag bar to nip them up again,, its not like a car engine, there is only 150 psi in the cylinder and you could hold that much back with one finger!
Specific oil for hitachi compressors
They make compressor oil, but all you need is non-detergent oil, the little engine spins so fast that it will turn the oil into foam, real quick. I think 30 weight, single viscosity type stuff will do.
Hitachi EC12 plug it in and nothing happens. No
Sure the outlet you plugged into is working, do not use an extension cord.
If there is power, then there is a black box, where the cord enters the unit., in here is the pressure switch, it tells the unit to work,
unplug the unit open it and see if the plate with the spring moves freely
and then try it again, if not you probably need a new one, I would contact
the company and see if there are problems with the unit and see what they will do for repair, or they might have a better option for troubleshooting this unit.
Draws too much current
It sounds to me like the check valve is leaking. This valve is located at the tank where the line goes in from the pump - it is supposed to keep the air from flowing from the tank back to the pump. If it leaks, it will hiss out of the unloader but make create enough back pressure to keep the pump under enough load to overload the motor upon start-up. Sometimes you can remove this valve and simply clean it. Just make sure you bleed the tank down completely before servicing. I hope this helps.
Powere swithch
I would advise you just replace the switch, if the spring has fallen ou chances are something else is broken
Your pressure switch is set too high. Reduce the OFF side of the
OK, first off, most single stage air compressors will normally go to 125psi, not saying yours does. look on the tank of the compressor for a test certification for the tank pressure design, this pressure should "never" be exceeded!
If the tank will handle at least 125 psi, you need to check with a new gauge to see if the tank pressure is indeed going to 120 psi or higher. The safty valve will have it's set pressure on it. find out if the tank pressure is higher than the set pressure of the safety.
once you eliminate the gauge, then the safety and find that the tank pressure i being exceeded then either the pressure switch is out of adjustment or is defective and needs to be replaced.
I hope this helps you out
My EC12 has an intermitting hard start up problem.
Single phase motors use a start capacitor and a start switch (that is internal to the motor) for start up of the motor, if either one is not working it will cause this problem, I would advise you take it to a motor repair shop to have it checked out.
It has suddenly stopped turning over, hums and
try to turn the motor over manually after unplugging. if still not working I would return for a warranty replacement or repair, they have a great warranty. If not let me know and I will do more research. Another thing is there water in the tank, try starting it with the petcock valve open and if turns over shut and observe operation.
