Above is your manual, this has much information. From what you describe, I would think "Sensor" or "Drive" for the sensor. IF there was a Short, I don't really think, it would actually go? What you need to do, is use the manual and perform the troubleshooting steps, and check all sensors switches, etc. If the windings are shorted, then accordingly the "Drive" too, well, that would most likely be destroyed.. if it is so, you will need to check that too.and replace it.

Well it seems that their could be a limit switch problem. also if someone has replaced the limit switch they could have not connected the wires back up correctly. if your wiring and switch are correct than you have a bad circuit board. my opinion is to not even fix it and replace the whole opener with a gto-pto gp sl50 They are the most reliable opener out so far and come with all the features that elite charges extra for like a battery backup for instance.

Disable the telephone control to isolate that much of the system. You should be able to just disconnect the telephone line into the unit. Do without for a day or so to find if it might be the telephone control. IF IT IS get the telephone company to log the origination of the calls. If it still does it without the telephone, change the codes as it is likely some other nearby person has the same system and his codes are the same as yours. The unit is saying it is getting a valid command... so it has to be coming from someplace. There is a chance one of the remotes in your vehicle is sending this. You might, although it is inconvenient, keep one of the vehicles at a time say several blocks away to see if problem stops. Moisture in the button could cause one of the remotes to be sending the commands.

That light flashing means a limit switch issue is present. Check the switch and all the wiring to that switch.

Follow the steps in the manual if you have a manual and if you don't have one I recommend that you get one.

The Limit nuts are out of adjustment. This can be caused by the chain jumping the sprocket, usually when something gets caught in the chain or it has not been adjusted. It can also be caused by a cracked limit nut. The limit switch and nuts are located at the top of the operator (under the cover) and has a lid held on by a single screw. Loosen the screw, and remove the lid. Inside you will see two cogs on a threaded shaft with slots cut into them. These slots are there so the lever will keep the nut from spins and allow it travel down the shaft as the shaft turns. The limit nuts eventually contact the limit switch, stopping motor. Look closely at the sides of the nut to make sure there are no cracks allowing the limit nut to spread open and slip on the threaded shaft. You may have to clean them to see it. If there is a crack, usually found between the brass nut and a slot, you will need to replace the limit nut. Go ahead and do both nuts at the same time as it is a challenging process and you will want to do it only once. If the nuts are not cracked, simply press the bar holding the nuts in place back with a screwdriver and spin the nut towards the limit switch until the gate stops about one to one and a half inches away from the post. The gate stopping point can vary even more than one and a half inches on slopes so if it starts happening again, give it even more space. Finally, a new limit nut may look different than the old one. The old ones with the brass nut encased in plastic had more cracking issues than the new all plastic nut shown here. Good luck

Since you have a battery and it is a sliding gate, I will assume you have a Roboslide model by Elite. The battery has to be charged in order for the gate to work. The charging comes from a transformer or a solar panel. Check to make sure these have power coming out of them. Most gate operators use a transformer and if the two wires providing the voltage touch each other, it will blow the transformer. If you have a volt ohm meter you can check this. You might need to use the AC setting as well as the DC since some are 18 volt DC and others are 25 volt DC. You can do the same for a solar panel but only use the DC setting. If this is not your issue, then make sure it is your battery draining and not something binding in either the motor or the gate. Finally, it could be the motor going out. Simply hook the charged up battery directly to the motor to check it. It should respond strongly. Reverse the leads to make the motor go the other way. Good luck.
