Power problems with a Compaq Presario C700

Sounds to me like a broken connector on the socket on the motherboard.check, ,or a broken wire at the plug end, check, or the like, or the battery is not making contact as you discovered. Meter the PSU, and wiggle the plug, and socket and see if it makes and breaks connections.

If the system still has Windows Vista, then HP has a troubleshooting page here.

Has the laptop been "downgraded" from Vista to WindowsXP? That's a different problem, but there's a solutions page for that one too -- try here.

I downgraded my OS from Win7 back to XP, cant connect vie wireles

You should only have to retype in the WEP key when trying to connect to the router as all passwords . settings are stored in the router. If you did a master reset in the router you will have to completely reset up the username / password in the router.

Bhanu: as i switch on my laptop it'll show compaq

Bhanu,
Up to Compaq is the BIOS working. Then it has to go to the HDD, which it seems not to reach. At bootup press F2 and and enter BIOS and see if the HDD is recognized? If yes, then press F8 at Boot up and select Safe Boot. If not then take it to a repair facility.

My presario c700 wont read a disc, but when i go

If its just one particular disc it won't read then its the disc, if it won't read any disc then its the drive.
Most likely the lens may be dirty, unless its a moving parts fault.
All professional advice says "do not touch the lens" but I have in the past used a can of compressed air to clean the lens and get more use from a drive, I've also used a very very soft cloth to gently clean the lens, failing that I've replaced the drive.
