My guess is there is a piece of plastic either on the pedal or the case that is rubbing. If pumping the pedal makes it work then the spring is probably okay. A small piece of plastic flashing from when the parts were molded may have dislodged and is causing the pedal to hang up. When you pump the pedal you are causing the small piece of plastic to bend out of the way. If you cycle the pedal enough the piece of plastic will likely break off. Sort of like breaking a soda can in half. If you bend it back and forth enough times it will eventually break.

Check if you have configured the settings properly and also check if the device was installed correctly

-Check if the connections are plugged in properly -Does the wheel calibrate (turn left and right and then centres) when you turn on the wheel. -Doe the game support the wheel? - Plug the DFGT into the USB port 1 of the console AFTER you turn on the console. So turn on the console and then plug in the DFGT into the USB port 1 and turn it on.

I would of assumed it would be either the start or select button located at the bottom section of the wheel, unless the controls have been remapped... try them all :)

You cannot connect the Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel to a ps2. It was made for a ps3

try upadting the app they just released a new version

The wheel should be plugged in and powered up before turning on the PS3. While booting the wheel should go through its full range of motion and the horn button light will stop blinking and stay on steady. If the light doesn't stop blinking the wheel failed to calibrate and is probably defective. I had to exchange mine and did end up getting one that worked this time.
