I have a sonybravia KDL-52W4100.

It is possible you need to align up your HD box with your TV. Put your TV on Channel 3 or 4 to see if the signal will come in.

The TV has horizontal lines across about 5 inches

Horizontal lines are relatively rare problem in LCD TVs.

The likely problematic areas are:

1) The LCD itself (the micro ICs embedded into the LCD panel structure); that doesn't sound likely based on what you say, but it's not completely impossible. The bad news is it's mostly uncurable.

2) The power board A-1511-322-D G5
Power boards may sometimes cause problems with display, although rarely causing horizontal lines.
I wouldn't start looking here either, but it is certainly a problem to consider.

3) Main board 1-876-561-13 R1506072C
Slightly more possible and yet not quite likely. A high operating temperature and bad SMD soldering process may cause some soldering contacts on the main board to behave differently when the board is cold versus when it heats up. It is very common and may have all kinds of different effects on the TV and the screen.
One way to check for that is with a regular dryer..the process is explained in many other solutions at fixya and around the net, so I wouldn't repeat it here...but it takes time and patience.

4) The most likely place to start with is the T-Con / LCD controller
404652ASNC6LV4.1 M139.

I'd first replace that and see if the problem goes away.

5) There's a very minor chance that the LVDS cable that connects the main board with the T-Con does not make good contact initially and changes that as a result of getting hot. It's easy to just touch and move it lightly when the TV is still cold to see if it has an effect on the picture.

Sorry I couldn't just nail it for you, but that's the nature of the repair businss :-)

The picture on my sony bravia 52 in is huge and I

Try pressing HOME, Then go to SETTINGS From the list, select SCREEN
There are now several options that may be causing the picture to zoom. Try adjusting each setting in the following order, checking if the problem has solved after each change.
Set: DISPLAY AREA to NORMAL WIDE MODE to NORMAL AUTO WIDE to OFF 4:3 DEFAULT to NORMAL
If you are still having problems, you may need to speak to Sony about having the TV serviced as an internal circuit may be broken - if this is the case it may be covered by the warranty.
I hope this helps - if you require more info, here is a link to the Manual for your tv http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/pdf/warranty/0451c422be8f7211d50375af6ace50aef8fb6504.pdf

I have a thin red line vertically on the left side

You have a defective panel. The only fix is to replace the panel. This would not be cost effective. Cheaper to buy a new TV.

No power

Hi Antonio,

Here are some basic steps that will help you fixing the problem.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I would advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts in the power supply, you may visit the linkhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact , don't attempt to touch anything because there some fatalcomponents stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only. I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the power supply. If you want to repair it yourself make sure that you have necessary tools and test instrument. First check bad solder joints(re-solder all cold solder), leaky electrolytic capacitor(sometimes it has bulged at the top but not all, you better have a capacitor checker), open/shorted regulator transistor/IC(mounted in heat sink), open fusible resistor (caused by shorted regulator Transistor/IC), shorted zener diode.

You may also replace the power supply board, try online like ebay.com and shojimmy.com.

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using fixya.

Have a sony bravia 52 inch, that was clear on the

Hi rthill80,

You may power on the unit in the dark room and directly shine the flashlight to the LCD monitor. You will barely see an image or picture because the fault is either the inverter board or the lamp (backlight). You may isolate the problem but it will require you some tools and test instruments. Also, you must know some basic safety precaution in electronics troubleshooting.

Best way to find the faulty parts between the two you need to test the output of the inverter board. You can do it using the voltmeter or if does not available you may substitute a two 12v car bulb in series to the output of the inverter board. Powering on the unit and look if the bulb will glow or not. Yes, your lamp was busted. No, the inverter board fail.

You may look online for the replacement of defective parts. If you can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to send it to your local Sony service center or look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Also, check if the unit is under warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only. Don't attempt to open the back cover because it will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

My Sony KDL-52WL140 does not

Hello,

The problem should be from the front panel control board. The board is defective or has disconnected from the inside.

To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the TV. But before then you need to be sure there is nothing wrong with the remote. I would advise you test the remote on another Sony TV irrespective of its model to be sure about the condition of the remote. You can test it on a family or friend's TV.

Once you confirm the remote is good, then you have to check the front control panel board of the TV, as it may have loosed contact or may have developed a fault.

Turn off the TV, remove it from the wall, wait for about 30mins before you attempt to disassemble it in order to avoid electric shock because TV stores a lot of current even after it is being turned off.

Get a screw driver, remove TV screws, open the TV back cover, carefully bring out the main panel/board to gain access to the front panel.

Check the wires connected to the front panel, make sure they are intact. Also check if the buttons are not stuck . If all seem intact and problem persists, then it means the board is detective and needs to be replaced.

I hope you understand the message I am trying to pass across.

Good luck.

Broken screen

It is an expensive item to buy if you can find one at all, and the potential for disaster when fitting is high. Have you ever replaced a screen? If not have a professional do the job or claim on your insurance if you are covered.

I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

TV picture is oversized and

Confirm that your source(s) are set to "widescreen" or "16:9". If you have the remote, use the "wide" button to cycle through the aspect settings. One setting should look better than the rest, without cutting off any of the picture.

If you continue to have issues, please list the source and source material you are viewing.
