Hi, You have guessed it right. (tuner fault) I would suggest you can get a set top box, they have tuners built in. Just set your TV on ch 3 or 4 and you can run from the box. You can get them from your cable company or dish network. Good luck.

Based on serial number of your tv, no firmware update available at this moment on Sony Support site.
Please switch to component AV cables to avoid intermittent sound problem, I hope a firmware update will be available soon to resolve the sound issue.

That sounds correct, I just have to work on SONY BRAVIA KDL-40BR4 with Horizontal lines problem on ther right side, you you tap around the frame, the lines will come and go, this is only 2 years old TV! Poor quality panel made by SONY/SAMSUNG company jointed venture.
Very sad indeed when you paid for BRAVIA series which are not cheap.
New screen will cost more than new TV.

It sounds like the power supply is bad.Open the back of the TV,and look at the can shaped items called capacitors on the circuit boards.If any of them have the tops,or bottoms bulged out,they need to be replaced.This should get it working again.I hope this helps.If you have any questions,please let me know.Thank You very much!
