No sound
Check the tv menu to ensure that speakers are on. And disconnect any cables that went to the surround sound.

Remote sensor on tv not responding
Have you checked your remote to see if its working? If you have a digital camera or camera phone, point the remote at the lense and see if it shows up on camera screen. If it is working then the IR sensor on the tv could be bad.
