In my area, Comcast has blocked all free watchable basic channels. You now need a very small but special box to receive those. If it's a conventional cable box, you might have to call them to send a signal to reset it.

Check the tv menu to ensure that speakers are on. And disconnect any cables that went to the surround sound.

Look first in menu to see if speakers somehow are switched to off. Look to see if sound with a DVD etc connected to one of the rear sets of inputs----also depending on hookup a cable or sat box can cause this also.

Have you checked your remote to see if its working? If you have a digital camera or camera phone, point the remote at the lense and see if it shows up on camera screen. If it is working then the IR sensor on the tv could be bad.
