High frequency noise from toshiba dvd recorder
if you can remove the cover of your dvd recorder, then access the power supply board first check if their is bulging capacitor or transformer which emits the noise.if ok, observe if the noise is coming from the dvd burner during recording.

You may have a timing gear issue, broken loading belt, or stripped gears.

I believe you only need to format DVD RW disks. These are re-writeable and need to be pre-formatted before use. "R" disks can be extended with additional material before finalization, but existing material can't be written over. They are not formatted before use.

try different type of blank dvd according to your dvd recorder format. hope this info help you resolve your problem.

the dvd recorder isnt a HD recorder so nothing you can do will allow it to record it in HD, you could improve the quality though if you try using DVD+R DL discs instead, that will double the available space for recording so it should improve quality somewhat
My DVD Player won't turn
Hi, well when this happens usually it is the PSU in the unit that has faulted, perhaps you should take it to a good reputable Toshiba repair center and ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repairs.
Now to get your disc out, if you look at the front of the DVD cover, you should see a small hole, using say a paper clip straightened out, insert into this hole and push it in, keep pushing until you feel/hear a click, now keep on pushing gently in, and the draw should pop open, now you can remove your DVD.
DVD eject does not work. DVD is still inside but

go to your setup menu and shut all timers off...(are you trying to record HBO...this will occur when trying to record any of HBO/Disney) check your manual and make sure you have the right type of disk...+/- makes a big difference
How to connect the toshiba to a rca tv with direct
do you have dvd in jacks on your rca...direct tv out to dvd in.....(this setup u need to scan for channels on the dvd)..note some premium channels will not record on dvd (will and still record on vhs)

Does your dishnet box have two tuners or one, if only one then only the program being watch on the tv can be recordered , this will have to be connected to the av input on the recorder and one of the av (line input) selected with the remote control for the recorder, If the dishnet box as two tuners then the output from one tuner can be used to feed the tv and the other one will go to the recorder connected through the av input. hope this will help regards windyhouse
