If you are a newbie, and you primarily want the mp3 player for audiobooks, then go ahead and take this player back to the store - I'll tell you why:
The deal between Audible and Philips fell through before the latest series of GoGear's was released. Therefore, even though the player has an Audible folder, it will not properly play Audible audiobook files. Sad, but true.

Your post reminds me that I need to write a Consumer Watch article on mp3 players that claim to play audiobooks - 90% of them will not easily allow you to play audiobooks - you will have to jump through hoops.

If you still want to try, here is what you want to do:
1. Delete any audiobooks off the GoGear, but make sure that you have a copy of the audibooks on your computer itself.
2. Open Windows Media Player. Find your audiobook files in your library. If they don't show up, then you will have to move your mouse over the Library tab - a small black arrow should appear underneath the word "Library" - click the black arrow and select "Add to Library". Click "Add" and find the folder in which your Audible files are stored. It may take several minutes, but Windows Media Player will add these files to Windows Media Player.
3. Right-click an Audiobook file starting with Chapter 1 of whatever book, and select "Advanced Tag Editor". One-by-one, manually assign an a track number to each audiobook chapter - Track 1 for Chapter 1, Track 2 for Chpater 2, etc.
4. Now, re-add the audiobook files to your GoGear.
5. You might additionally have to go into the Settings menu of your GoGear, and turn Shuffle mode off - your user's manual can show you how to do this.

Sound like a lot of work? You betcherbottom dollar it's a lot of work. This particular mp3 player is not the best for audiobooks.

Arc soft say;s im missing a codec flv codec's

Even the newest version of the Arcsoft Media Converter, I have found, doesn't recognize FLV files even if you have an FLV codec. Use a free program called Riva FLV Encoder to convert any FLV files to AVI format first. Then Arcsoft will recognize it.

Video conversion

Video (eg: YouTube Videos) can be dragged onto the PVP such as Philips Sa5285/37 without using ArcSoft or Windows Video Player. Use "Mozilla FireFox 3.0.5" with "Download Helper 3.5.1 Add On" and download the selected Video from YouTube in the prescribed manner and then drag it onto your PVP by opening up "My Computer" in Windows and finding the PVP Icon (make sure your device is connected) - open it and find the Video Folder and if it is not there create one as you would on your PC. This works well as long as the Video is converted to AVI by the Add On Download Helper Convertor. Open "Preferences" window after opening FireFox Browser and opening Download Helper window. Select "Conversion" ,Double Click "Convert FLV Files From ALL to AVI Default" from main window( this would have been set as a rule ). Then Select Input Files with Extension "FLV" then "from site" "ALL" then for "Output" select AVI(mpeg4+mp3) then selct "Details" & then "General" and then "Output Format" "AVI Format" then "Video Codec" "mpeg4" then "Audio Codec" "libmp3lame". Do not go to "Advanced" and change anything -those boxes are left unchecked and just "Custom AVI" comes up for Video Format. Good Luck Friends! DWH

Rhapsody will not transfer audio files

They are NOT in the right format. You are mistaken. I have a funny, but true story to tell you. Philips co-branded this player with Rhapsody. But, then they made their player incompatible with Rhapsody's DRM system. They only way to get songs from Rhapsody onto this particular player is to download them from Rhapsody's Mp3 Store - make sure the files are in Mp3 format. Then it will recognize the songs.

My device won't take my music and it's freezing

Once you delete any key system files off this player it is done - call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

These newer Philips players are a step backwards - it is too easy to delete system files along with songs.

How to download music to my mp3

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer. You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track.
