If your running the receiver in 5.1 using a center channel, go into the main menu of the receiver and select "speaker settings" toggle to "center channel" and adjust the gain to taste. If you need more help, post a comment and I can help you some more
I have a similar problem with my ACER X1700. I am
No, you don't have to use an optical cable, although it would sound considerably better. If you go into the "Menu" of the receiver and toggle to "Audio input Mode" select "Auto" and that will do the trick. If not, post a comment and I can guide you some more. Hope this helps
Yamaha HTR -6130 DTS?????
First, the sound source must also be in DTS. DTS is typically not the default audio selection on any DVDs that have that format...you'll have to select it.
I would like to add a subwooofer on the B switch
You can use an FMM Y connector to split the LFE signal on your receiver but unless you turn the outside sub off when it's not in use, it will get the signal whether or not the B speaker selector is on or off. Also, if the sub you have has speaker level inputs, that would allow the B speaker selector to control the sub.
Good Luck,

How to hook up a xbox 360 console to my yamaha 6130 receiver
You will need an additional HDMI cord...you can get them without getting ripped off by purchasing at bluejeanscable.com.
Connect your HDMI out from the xbox to the receiver. Connect the additional HDMI cable to the "out" HDMI connection on the receiver and connect the other end of it to your TV.
I'm trying to hook up my Acer Aspire x1700 to a
You can set the receiver to any source that uses a optical connection. Then make sure that whatever you select whether it be CD/DVD you also have the source connection set to optical too on the receiver setup menu.
That being said, after that is done you will need to set up the computer to output audio. That usually just involves changing the output mode on the computer and adjusting the levels...open the Acer audio managment application, choose the audio output mode to stereo or dolby digital and turn everything up on the computers level controls. Then, when you open whatever software you're going to use to play your discs you may also have to adjust the volume level there as well.
8' Optical Cable from TV to Receiver and Signal is Breaking Up
Before you buy anything try checking the AUDIO Settings in the Menu of Each Device (Mostly TV) and see if they are set to PCM or BITSTREAM.
HDMI is mostly set to PCM while Optical is generally Bitstream.
The TV may be set to the opposite of what it needs to be.
I would try to get PCM to work first cause it is Better, If not then set what you can to Bitstream and it should pass.
Also check in TV Menu for SOUND OUT or AUDIO OUT or SPEAKERS.
Some TV's have a problem passing Audio through when they are already Outputting them to it's own Speakers!
I Hope this Helps out!

I have a cable box, a ps-3 and a westinghouse hdtv
Hi,
Please connect HDMI in Receiver's HDMI OUT and hook it in TV's HDMI IN port.
Now connect Cable and PS3 HDMI cables in Receiver only. Turn ON all things and TV will recognize PS3 and Cable Box HDMI via Receiver.
Hit "add a comment" button for further query / info. Please intimate TV and receiver model numbers in reply.
Thanks.
