Power dies

Problem with power. You could have a bad battery pack, or a poor connection in the charger. Try cleaning your battery contacts with a pencil eraser and recharging the batteries. Another test would be to trade batteries with a known good unit and see if the problem is solved. Best regard

Which channels should I use

Choose from channels 15-22 GMRS frequencies. Privacy code can be anything you desire. It simply keeps you from hearing other users on the same frequency.

How do I get rid

What you are referencing is "white noise" or "squelch tail". This can sometimes be reduced or eliminated by changing your interference eliminator code from zero (off) to a numbered setting.

Sadly, most modern 2-way radios will have some squelch tail.

I can't get the radios

These are multi-channel FRS / GMRS radios. In order to receive transmitted signals from the other radio, they both must be set to the same Channel and the same Interference Eliminator Code. One without the other will keep audio from being heard on the receiving radio.

I suspect you need to refresh yourself with the radio's controls and settings. If you have lost the manual, you can get a copy free of charge from Motorola You'll need a free program called Adobe Reader to view it.

Once you have everything - look at the right hand side of page 1 for "Talking and Listening" followed by "Menu Options" to set the radios up correctly. Keep in mind that if VOX is selected, and there is sound near both radios, they both will transmit at the same time - since the radios receive OR transmit at any given time, no audio will be heard from either.

It automatically turn off when press the PTT

This is usually a power problem - if the transmitter cannot draw enough power to operate, it shuts the radio off to prevent circuitry damage. Make sure that you're using fresh, fully charged batteries, and that the contacts on the batteries and inside the radio are clean and free of corrosion.

I need to know if I can fix an eprm err with the

An eeprom error can occur during programming due to several factors, it may have been as simple as a momentary glitch in the computer, radio or cable, or other unknown cause. Once you've discovered the error, you need to get rid of any saved codeplugs associated with the problem radio. You can try cloning another radio's codeplug back into the unit to see if it clears the error. If this does not work, there is nothing you can do using the CPS software to resolve the error. The radio would need to go back to the Motorola factory depot or a qualified/experienced service facility to have the error cleared and have the radio reprogrammed.

Motorola gm300

Hi,

If you are referring to the receive audio, possibly the reason it is soft/weak are:
1. defective internal speaker - try using an external speaker;
2. volume control - try rotating back & forth till you get satisfactory level. In some cases, you may need to clean the inside of the volume control with an electronic contact cleaner. At worst is that it has to be replaced;
3. defective amplifier - between the volume control and the speaker is the audio amplifier. This is a single op-amp IC U501 (TDA1519A); and/or
4. muting - which is a bit complicated. This is triggered either by the squelch or by the CTCSS tone decoder. You may have partial/false muting. You need to check Q501 (MMBT3904) and its associated circuitry.

Other than #1, most fix would require opening the unit and familiarity with electronic circuitry & components, use of a DVM and soldering iron. Perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified communication technician.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

You might check your Qt filter setting. Here is a link to the user manual: http://www.giantintl.com/ContentManage/manuals/Moto/EM1000%20User%20Guide%2001-11-08.pdf

These radios have a tendency to remember the last setting they were on, when you turn them on again. As far as range, handheld radios will talk line-of-sight up to 2 miles. Anything you get further is "bonus". Dealers cringe everytime we see an advertising claim of 5 miles or more. Here is a good explanation of range: http://www.hitechwireless.com/understanding-radio-range.htm

If you are unable to get your radios to work correctly, since they are new, I would suggest returning them for another set.
