Garmin North America GPS Map Update Maps Software - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with the old map or but the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.

After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

There is no free map updates for garmin if you dont have lifetime subscription.

You'll need to install the software on your computer first. Then you will need to connect your Garmin with a USB cable just like you would a camera to upload pictures. The computer should find your GPS and finish the install and give you a choice to update your map database. This usually is a fee based update. Not too expensive and maybe you can purchase a lifetime update deal through e-bay or amazon etc. Good luck!

Head over to Garmin.com and under the SUPPORT section - download WebUpdater.

Each time you connect your device it will search/install updates automatically.

I don't have a Nuvi 1300, only a 200 and a 215. You may want to try loading only the Continental US map. Not the whole Northern Hemisphere. It maybe that your Nuvi 1300 doesn't have enough memory to contain the entire map.
I did the same thing with my Nuvi 200 when I first got it. Was ready to drop it onto the pavement from my third floor balcony!!! Went out and bought a second Nuvi that same day, and did the same thing to it too. I was livid all weekend long.
By Monday morning I finally got with someone there at Garmin who walked me thru the process and explained that the Nuvi can't hold that much info at once. Only part of the maps.

The application is crashing for whatever reason. Uninstall the Web Update Software, restart your computer, and then install it again. This will more than likely solve your problem. The reason that the picture of the gps connected to a pc is shown is because the mini usb plug is not pushed in fully into the back of the satnav. This is a common problem with the 200w as it feels like the plug is fully in when it's not.
When the map is on the satnav for a year it displays the message that it's out of date. It can be updated again at www.garmin.com but if it was updated last year it may not be worth the cost of updating it again as there will be few changes. Generally I update mine every 2 years.

Most problems for this happening stem from the unit being mounted on the windscreen when the windscreen has heating elements in it, this causes the signal from the satellites from reaching the gps unit. If this is the case, the only option is to fit an external antenna through the sunroof onto the roof.
