Yes, you can load the map of "southern Africa" which includes South Africa. Go to the tomtom website ... click Maps ... look for "Map of the World" ... and look for Southern Africa. Then you can purchase the map ...and, download it to your TomTom ...

Was this a new purchase? if so you should be able to get that, but your computer should save the files when you connect too it

You must turn it on, or un-mute it & adjust volume too. by using the setup.

It is not a transmitter, it puts out no signal. It is a receiver ... As far as I know, no one has turned the satellites off.

If your receiver is not receiving a signal, I suggest you have a conversation with Tomtom. Go here: http://www.tomtom.com/, select your country, look for a "contact us" or "support" tab.

Your Tomtom's programing got corrupted. You need to have the memory re-Flashed to a good program can be loaded. Bring your Tomtom to a local electronics repair shop and have it done there.

look for Flags in settings and scroll

1. Tap anywhere on the map to get the menu.
2. Tap "Change preferences."
3. Tap "Change voice."
4. Select an English-speaking voice.
   

try giving the contacts on the SD card a quick wipe and try again

just push in on the sd card then release it. it should partially pop out!

Try sticking a blunt pin in the reset hole in the shoe fixing plate. Let me know if works!

I had the same problem after downloading the latest maps, the unit was slow to boot up and would not find any satelites. I had no response from e-mails to Tom tom tech support and I was going to give up and buy a new device if this fix failed. I had tried paper clip resets and resetting to factory settings but they had not worked.

After reading the previous answer to this link I searched Tom tom support for 'clear flash' and the search results were more useful than the FAQ on the normal support pages.

I used Tom tom home to uninstall the current software application and then reinstalled the latest version (I had to go through several updates as my version of the software was from when I purchased the unit in 2007), I then downloaded and ran Clear flash and made sure that I disconnected the tom tom from my PC using the correct procedure (using the eject button in the bottom of the tom tom home screen as I read that this could have contributed to the problem in the first place).

After another reset the device came to life and after a few minutes searching for satelites outside the device worked as it should (try checking the configure GPS option if it is taking a while to find a signal, it could be just me but it seems to speed up the search process).

i do not know if you have changed the voice on the preferences, if not on main menu 1 page tap change preferences,go to page 4 tap change voice, the computer voices will be 1st ,then tap the one you want then select ,

It is a design flaw. I had the exact thing happen and TomTom advised "not to let it get warm" inside the car. I'm sorry, this is supposed to be affixed to the windshield and it gets hot. When the sun hits, it stops charging. Hold it in front of the AC vent for a few minutes, it cools down and it charges again. But it shuts off in the heat because it will not charge!

How can I delete a Favourite?
1. Tap the screen to bring up the Main Menu.
2. Tap Change preferences to open the Preferences menu.
3. Tap Manage Favourites.
Tip: Tap the arrow to move to the next page buttons.
4. Tap the Favourite you want to delete.
5. Tap Delete.

and made sure the computer voice was selected

Open mapsettings.cfg from unit in poiedit, delete destinations and resave file...

Have you tried the reset hole. It should be located on the side or the front, it only the size of a jim cllip hole. Just push it once and the try your TomTom.
