Garmin nuvi 255W GPS Receiver - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Nuvi 255w has no voice navigation
Do you hear beeps when you press a function on the screen? If so, this rules out a blown speaker. If you don't hear any beeps, your speaker may be blown out.
Is the sound muted? Is the sound level set to 0? Check by pressing the speaker icon at the main menu.

Broken Mini-USB Port
This is a very common problem on all GPS systems. The USB port comes loose and disconnects from the motherboard. Sometimes we can re-solder it if it did not come off completely. Sometimes the complete board has to be replaced. I do this all the time for my customers. Your unit must be opened and inspected by a competent repair person (like me) to determine what needs to be done.
I updated my garmin nuvi255 and it only shows usa
When you update the unit you are given selections based upon how much memory is available on your unit. With each map release, the map sizes become larger. On the 2xx series, you may not have had enough memory to have both the US and Canada map, so it probably only installed the lower 48 states. You will need to install the map on an SD card in order to have both maps on the unit.
My screen does not respond to my touch
You need to Calibrate the touch screen.1Turn off the Nuvi. 2 Turn on the Nuvi and hold the Power key to the left for about 30 seconds untill the calibration screen appears (white screen with "Press dot")
I have a nuvi 2597LMT. It does not speak street
This model has the capability to speak street names. You probably have it set to American English, which only says Turn right or turn left. Go to menu where the voices are. If it says American English or British English, press that name and you will see other voices. Select a TTS (text to Speech voice) like Jack or Samantha or Jill and you will now what a voice that speaks street names. If you can't find any listings, you will need to connect the unit to a PC and download them from the Garmin website.
