Garmin nuvi 260W GPS Receiver - Page 6 Questions & Answers
My Garmin GPS is shutting down after about 3
I've seen two issues listed on GPS forums. One is a firmware issue, if
you use batteries like lithiums the higher voltage can trigger the
overvoltage shutdown, they fixed it with a firmware change to make sure
your up to date. The other is on older models but is a connection between the back/battery holder and the pcb.
Many Garmin models have a problem with shutting down when you hit a
bump. The problem in most cases is that one of the batteries
momentarily loses contact with the connector and the unit powers down.
I've cured the problem on my eMap by adding a little pad of foam packing
material inside the battery cover which keeps the batteries from
vibrating and losing contact.
UNLOCK GARMIN 260W
Take it back to the security location and it will automatically unlock. If this is not possible, send it in to Garmin with original receipt from Garmin dealer and they will unlock it for you. If this is not possible, the unit is permanently locked - there is no master unlock code.
Not working in charging process
When the satnav is connected to the car charger sometimes there can be a problem with the mini USB plug at the back of the satnav. The plug appears to be pushed in fully but it's not. This causes the satnav to stop working and show a picture of a satnav connected to a computer. If this is your problem push the mini USB plug in further and it should solve your problem.

Nuvi 7xx Series: Slide the On/off power switch to the left and hold for at least 8 seconds and then release.

Thats normal on the Nuvi units when you release it from the cradle it will ask to stay On or Off..... this automatically creates teh last positon your car was in whne you take it off the cradle.... the last positon will store in your favorites..( its a great tool if you forget where you parked your car, just look in your favorites then Last Position it will then take you there )

If you have paid for map updates on the Garmin website you should be still able to download them without paying any more.
- Log into your garmin account.
- Click on myMaps.
- Under the name of your map you will see the word "details"
- Click on details and it will take you to a page where you can download the map again.
You don't say what happens when you try to download the map so I will tell you the solutions to the most common problems.
- You need a broad band connection to download the maps as they are very large and take several hours. If you don't have broadband you could contact Garmin and get them to send it to you on a DVD.
- Sometimes there's a problem of the download stopping and having to begin from the start again. If you have this problem get "Free Download Manager" from www.freedownloadmanager.org This downloads faster than standard downloaders and if the download stops it resumes from where it stopped.
- When you try to download a map it selects to download to your satnav by default. When it shows your satnav it's displayed on a drop-down menu. If you click on the menu you get the option to download to your computer. If the download problem is with your satnav try downloading to your computer. When you do this there's a program called MAPINSTALL set up in a Garmin folder on your computer. When the download is finished click on the windows start button. Then click on GARMIN. Then on MAPINSTALL. This will install the map to your satnav.
- Which ever way you try to download the map your satnav must be connected to your computer
I hope some of these solve your problem for you.

you need to make sure your Locale setting (language) is set to one that is marked with the TTS function.
Here are the steps to follow to set up the "text to speech" function in nuvi 350:
From the main page (the one with "Where to", "View map"), go to "setting"(on the right hand side panel), then click on "Locale".
Click on the second icon (the red lips) and then choose a language that has "TTS" in brackets at the end. The names after each language simply refers to male/female voices.
For example:
American English-Jack(TTS) activates a male "text to speech" voice and American English-Jill(TTS) activates a female voice.
The default option for Locale is American English (w/o TTS) so if you choose default, your GPS will not read out street names.
