Try pressing the dot. If that does not work you can try resetting the unit which will return it to factory specs but all your saved information like favorites and routes will be lost. The reset button is on the bottom of the unit. Power the unit off then press and hold the reset till it starts and the choose yes on the screen to restore the unit.
I have attached a link to the manual which shows a photo of the location and page 13 describes the reset in more detail.

This can sometimes be caused by the mini USB plug of the charger not being pushed in far enough into the satnav. It appears to be fully in but it's not. Pushing it in further may solve the problem.

Some units do have memory limitations that wont let them accept the most current map upgrade my recommendation is contact garmin and have them instruct you on how to apply your update to an SD card or often they can provide partial maps that would allow you to load most of NA on the GPS.

Are you able to hook the unit up to the PC via USB, if you are able to get it into mass storage mode i would try giving the unit an update using Garmins WebUpdater Software. Here. If you are unable to connect it to the PC you may have to send it in for warranty or repair. And just to be clear when doing the hard reset are you powering down the unit and holding the bottom right corner on the touchscreen and then turning the GPS back on with your finger still in the bottom right position?
Be sure that the hard reset cannot be done before you send it away for warranty or repair.

If your garmin came with lifetime map updates you will get them for free. The normal updates for your unit that makes it perform better are all free. You will need to install a program on Garmins website called web updater that will look for updates for your unit for you. But first you need to set up a account on Garmins web site. Click the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser.

When you get to Garmins web page look at the upper right hand corner of the page where it says My Garmin click on that and set up your account from there you can then download the web updater software and purchase new maps or update your maps if your entitled for free maps.

The frozen Garmin nuvi has to do with the Operating System (OS) software. An error as occurred on the (OS) software of the unit. Usually resetting fixes the problem, and if resetting doesn't help, re-updating the unit will certainly help. Updating helps to re-install the OS of the unit and the error will be repaired.

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this
position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against
the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

Follow the below steps to perform the update if resetting doesn't fix the problem;


1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

Hi, you just need to load New Zealand maps. Go to www.garmin.com find and purchase appropriate maps, then load them on your Garmin. Then you can search for address and cities in New Zealand, and will show your position there or anywhere in the you want.

If your unit is less than a year old yes you can. Or you can purchase a life time subscription for updates if your unit does not have that already. You can get more info on Garmin's web site here:

The GPS knows where it is as long as you have locked satellites, if you have traveled over a considerable distance the GPS may need some time to find the constellation so it can provide location. The GPS may take up to 20-30 minutes to lock satellites after traveling, so you may have to leave the GPS in a stationary position powered on for around that long.

• Press TOOLS (The spanner symbol in the right bottom corner of the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
• Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or LOCALE (the blue symbol) on models that don't have a SETTINGS symbol.
• Press LANGUAGE (The lips symbol)

This takes you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press each in turn. The VOICE will give you the option to select a voice by name and country. Select one that's from an English speaking country to get the voice prompts in English.

Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English or American English if you're in the USA.

Press KEYBOARD and Select English. This should solve your problem.

Try to perform a MASTER RESET. With unit off, press and hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen, keep holding this and turn the unit on, hold it for 10 more seconds and the unit should say do you really want to wipe all user data.

Your going to need to contact garmin for that. You can contact them at www.garmin.com go to the top right of the page where it says My garmin click on that. Either log in to your account or set up a new account, its free. Then contact technical support either by email or by phone and ask how to reset your unit.
