Phonic Helix18fw 18 Channel Mixer with Firewire Questions & Answers
My power supply in my
Usually it's the electrolytic caps that go in those, they basically "cook" and dry out, a power spike just pushes them over the edge. I've also had this problem with mine & 2 12 volt switchers for my HD and for the satellite had the same fix. I added a fan which helps. Another solution is to go to a second hand store, find 3 power suplies (15v,15v, 5V) and put them in place of the existing one. I am considering that myself as the firewire packed it in again last month and I had to jump over to the other 5v regulator to get it going again, even tho it was only 0.2 v short! Cheers, Sandrine
Phonic Helix Board sound problems
You don't specify which model Phonic mixer in question.
Is it a powered mixer ? And are you plugging your speakers into the speaker outputs ? If it's not a powered mixer and you're plugging speakers into the Line Outputs, you're not using a power amplifier between the line outputs and your speakers - this won't work.
If it is a powered mixer and you are plugging speakers into the speaker output connectors and still getting little or no sound, check your speaker cables and the speakers themselves by plugging them into known good amps.

Here is a link to your manual, hope it helps.

I get a distorted sound
Hallo landgenoot ;)It seems it is a power supply problem; distorted sound, no meters, solo buttons not working, headphones low level and distorted. One of the power supply voltages might be too low or even missing. The Helix series mixers use mainly 4 supply voltages: + 15 V and - 15 V for the analog part (audio), + 5 V for the DSP and logic and +48 V only for the phantom power. If for example the + or - 15 V is too low, clipping of the positive or negative parts of the waveform (dependng on which voltage is too low) will occur. If possible, first measure the voltages coming out of the power supply. You could use a metal part of a jack as ground reference. For the FireWire board an extra voltage supplied by the switched PSU is used. It is specified as +12,2 V, but I measured 14 V. This voltage is lowered to + 5 V by a resistor on the FW board and a 7805 regulator. (Not very efficient!) But as far as I can see, the FW voltage is not the problem here. I have some service documentation of the Helix series mixers (12, 17 and 24, so if you need more you can conatct me: frankdevries [at] versatel.nl.Groeten, Frank.
I have a Phonic Helix
The power supply uses three, 3 terminal regulator chips. You should find +/- 15 volts and +5 volts DC from those. There are two fuses, one for each polarity. If one of those is blown, that would cause the problem and one would need to find WHY it blew before replacing it.
You need to find a competent electronics repair person.
I have a Phonic Helix
It may be your old computer was running XP operating system and your new one Win7... There is a lot of incompatibility with different operating systems. You can try searching for a compatibile driver. If you cannot find one, the best thing might be to back-step to your old compatible OS and driver.

Turning my Phonic PowerPod7 into a home stereo
To turn your Phonic PowerPod 7 into a home stereo system, you will need to make some additions and connections to the existing setup. Here are the steps you can follow:
- Connect speakers: You will need to connect a pair of passive speakers to your PowerPod 7. You can do this by connecting the speaker cables from the speakers to the "Speaker Outputs" on the back of the PowerPod 7.
- Add a source: The PowerPod 7 has two channels, so you can connect a stereo source such as a CD player, turntable, or music streamer. Connect the left and right audio outputs of the source to the corresponding inputs on the PowerPod 7.
- Connect to power: Make sure to plug the PowerPod 7 into a wall outlet to power it on.
- Adjust the volume: Use the volume knob on the PowerPod 7 to adjust the overall volume of the system.
- Tune the sound: If desired, you can adjust the tone controls on the PowerPod 7 to tailor the sound to your preferences.
With these steps, you should have a functional home stereo system using your Phonic PowerPod 7.

Purchased a Phonic 740plus. Can't get the 16 channel effects to work. Manual is vague in this area. I seem to have everything set properly but it doesn't work. Does this need to go out to another amp?
Getting Started
1. Turn all power off on the Powerpod mixer. To ensure this, the AC cable should not be connected to the unit. 2. All faders and level controls should be set at the lowest level to ensure no sound is inadvertently sent through the outputs when the device is switched on. All levels should be altered to acceptable degrees after the device is turned on. 3. Plug all necessary instruments and equipment into the device's various inputs as required. This may include line signal devices, as well as microphones and/or guitars, keyboards, etc. 4. Plug any necessary equipment into the device's various outputs. This could include speakers, monitors, signal processors, and/ or recording devices. NB. No devices other than speakers should be connected to the power amp outputs. Plugging inappropriate devices into the mixer will likely cause damage to the device. Also, guitar cables should not be used to connect amplifiers to speakers. 5. Plug the supplied AC cable into the AC inlet on the back of the device, ensuring local voltage level is identical to that selected by the Voltage Selector on the rear of your device. 6. Plug the supplied AC cable into a power outlet of a suitable voltage. 7. Turn the power switch on.
