I imagine you've already fixed this problem by now. I have two of these car seats and it took me the longest time to figure it out. If you still need help, let me know. You're right, the instructions aren't as easy as they seem.

Use this site and input your model number and date manufactured to get your manual.
If it doesnt have your manual you can call 1-800-544-1108 for Dorel and have one
emailed or mailed to you.

I think on your car seat there is a rod that is under the seat and it slides thru the base.
There is a small tang that you press to one side and the rod will slide out separating the
seat from the base.

How do you get the base off of the saftey 1st alpha omega elite car seat ?

Wow, brings back memories! The splitter is the strange metal piece on the back of the car seat with straps attached to it. To change it into a belt positioning booster seat, you remove the harness straps completely and use the positioning clips on the side of the carseat (up by the head) to position the automobile's seat belt to the appropriate position.

It very difficult trying to explained to your what go wheres, your about the 5th person but different types of car seat having the same problems putting the strap back together correctly which I try to help. It would be a big safety issue for your child if someone gave you the wrong directions and you dont do it correctly and you think you did. I my self spend almost over an hours with mine when I undo mine to wash it, man what a pain. the best thing to do is to find the store that sell your type of car seats and take your car seat in with you and look at their display and copy it, trust me they wont mind. most of them will be fairly close and the same but you will get an idea. when you do get it back on, take a pictures and also have a friend watch you also, two eyes better than one, undo it and practice couple times eventually you wont have a problems next time.
