My 5770 bissell vacuum brushes won't turn on.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial. There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance. First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing. While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuum's belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all. Burning smell, but belt okay

The burning smell is caused by the heat generated from friction. Belts stretch and thus are worn out and must be replaced. When you do it (it is very easy) you have to remove the roller brush completely, anyway, clean it at the ends of the shaft of any pet hair and/or carpet threads. Also clean the area in the housing where the shafts rest. This will keep it rotating smoothly and your cleaner will operate more efficiently.

The electronic plug in the lower half of the vacuum (can only be seen when you take the top half off) is burnt. I need to replace it and can't find the name of the part on a schematics.

Well in vac shop terms that cord is referred to as a 'pigtail'. I cant seem to find a replacement or a part number off the schematics but that isn't uncommon. The problem is that when a cord like that starts burning its a sign of the cord drawing to much energy, possibly from a motor getting ready to go out. My advice is to definitely take it to a vac shop.

What is the electronic plug in the lower half of the Bissell Healthy Home vacuum model 5770 called

I see it on the schematic but its not specifically named as an available part. In vacuum shop terms its called a 'pigtail' cord. But, if that cord is burnt it could be a warning sign of a bigger issue such as a short or a motor that is on its way to catastrophic failure. I definitely recommend a vac shop look at that.

The roller will not turn

Check the dirt container level. If it is not full observe the spinning action of the debris in the container. If this appears reduced, check the suction at the hose by holding the palm of your hand over the end of the nozzle. If the suction is poor and the high pitch noise does not reduce when removing your palm. Check for obstruction in the hose. The procedure is outlined on pg. 12 - 13 of your user guide. If you no longer have your user guide a PDF version can be found at, http://www.bissell.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=8590011715 Your unit is equipped with a thermal cut-off switch to prevent damage to the motor from overheating. If your unit turns off, or won't power up, try letting it sit for 30 mins to cool down allowing the thermal switch to reset. If there is an obstruction preventing the brush from turning, the unit may turn off. Unplug the unit and remove any visible obstruction from the roller by reclining the unit, turning it over, face flat and carefully cut away any debris, hair, string, etc. which may be preventing the brush from turning. The brush will automatically reset itself when the unit is plugged back into an outlet. If not it is possible the brush assembly may have locked up. Follow these steps listed above along with any general filter maintenance to see if this solves the problem. If not, let me know and we can take it from there. Thanks and good luck.

Bissell Beater brush sporadic

I was having the same problem with my Healthy Home vac and happened to read a solution to another question on this site posted by someone with the user name "9008". I followed his suggestion and my vac works great again. There is a screw on the back of the handle near the cord holders that can loosen up over time. When this screw is loose, the brush switch (and therefore the brushes) do not work properly. I'm not sure why this little screw causes such a big problem, but it does. To find this screw, look on the back of the handle, it's on the edge, kind of behind the hose. You should see a triangle with a Phillips screw-head symbol embossed in the plastic. Tighten this screw gently (careful not to over-tighten and strip it!). Also, not a bad idea to tighten the other screws...I found many of mine to be quite loose. Hope this helps!!
