should have numbers on the machine to follow. It is about 8 steps. start at 1 and look for 2 and so forth until all numbers have been found. Hope this helps.

Possible problem is the bobbin inserted the wrong way round. I'm not familiar with this model, but if you've checked the upper threading, and it's still bunching, make sure the bobbin thread feeds off the bobbin correctly (e.g. either to the right, or to the left, as it's inserted). Hope this helps.

I'm not sure. Here is a video offering reset instructions for another computerized Brother sewing machine. Give it a look and see what might be transferable to yours. Normally, you can reset specific functions by going through the menu via a right click on an icon. But I am uncertain about resetting the entire computer to factory defaults. I don't see information about such on the Brother Support page nor information about the machine other than a long list of accessories. When I search the Pacesetter PDF below for "reset", I just find resets for functions. Need more info? Is the foot pedal plug inserted as far as can go? Sometimes, the plug or jack is simply incompletely inserted. It may look like it's inserted, but it isn't. Turn power off machine. Remove pedal jack from the plug and reinsert fully. Turn machine on. If that doesn't work, have you been using the machine with or without a surge protector? Electronic equipment, including electronic sewing machines, should only be used with a surge protector. Otherwise a power surge can "fry' those delicate electronic components. 3rd. Are you getting any error messages on your display? If you are, those error messages can trigger the machine to shut down until the problem has been identified and corrected. You will need the manual (free on brother.com/support.

If you can see down the spindle, check to see if any thread is caught that would prevent it from moving. If there is nothing caught, you can put one drop of oil on the spot where the spindle and the housing in which it rotates meet. If it is free to turn by hand, but won't turn when engaged, the tire may need to be replaced.

Just repaired my wife's Kenmore with this problem. How it works:The machine sends power to the motor, and checks if it is turning by looking at expected pulses as light shines through a slotted disk attached to the shaft of the same motor. No Turn = "Overload" error. How it Presents: From the overload error: If you turn the motor shaft by hand first, then pressed the foot peddle it would run, but there was a "sweet" spot where; if the motor was turning slow enough, it would stop and the next time you pressed the peddle the "Overload" error would occur again. The Fix: In her case the motor has a poor solder joint on one winding of the motor. A manufacturing error that took years to manifest. A surprising simple repair, if you are comfortable with this sort of stuff. Just disassemble the motor and re-solder. Try it, otherwise the motor must be replaced.
