how to chat using telnet in vista

how to chat using telnet in vista

Telnet is not the greatest programme to use for chat. However, Vista does not have telnet enabled as default. To install it go to:

Start menu->Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

on left select Turn windows features on and off

After a while a box will appear = look for Telnet Client and select it and press ok

Now go to Start Menu->Programs->Accessories
select Command Prompt
enter telnet and the IP Address of the computer you wish to connect with
-----------------------------------------

However, for chat I would suggest the more traditional chat programmes.

MSN Messenger (Free from Internet)
Yahoo Messenger (Free from Internet)
ICQ Messenger (Free from Internet)
AIM Messenger (Free from Internet)

If most of your email contacts are using Hotmail then use MSN, http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger
if they use AOL then use AIM http://dashboard.aim.com/aim
If they use Yahoo then use Yahoo Messenger http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com/
Otherwise use ICQ http://www.icq.com/

Happy Chatting

If this helped you then please vote kindly!

You have to get a firewall program and block the websites. Try Zone Alarm it is easiest one I can think of to setup.

Blocking Websites Using Internet Explorer

  • Internet Explorer makes it simple to block individual websites. Click the "Tools" button on the toolbar at the top. Then select "Internet Options." Look for the tab that says "Content." Click that tab and select "Content Advisor" and "Settings." You will see a tab that says "Approved Sites." There will be a white box that says "Allow this website." Since you do not want to allow Twitter or Facebook, simply enter "http://www.twitter.com" in the white box and click the "Never" button. Also type in "http://twitter.com" without the "www" and click "Never." Repeat the same steps for "http://www.facebook.com." You'll save your settings by clicking "Apply" and "OK." At this point, you may be asked to create an administrator password. Make sure you choose something that you will easily remember. Restart Internet Explorer and attempt to visit Twitter or Facebook. The site should now be blocked.
    Blocking Websites Using Firefox
  • Firefox is different from Internet Explorer in that it does not have a built-in option for blocking websites. You can still successfully block Twitter and Facebook using a Firefox add-in called BlockSite. BlockSite allows you to specify any website you wish to block and add it to a "blacklist" by simply adding it into the input box. Visit the Firefox add-ons site and download BlockSite. Restart Firefox and click "Tools > Add-ons." Click on BlockSite. Since you do not want to allow Twitter or Facebook, simply enter "http://www.twitter.com" in the input box and click the "Add" button. Also type in "http://twitter.com" without the "www." Repeat the same steps for "http://www.facebook.com." You'll save your settings by clicking "OK." Restart Firefox and attempt to visit Twitter or Facebook. The site should now be blocked. It's important to note that as a third-party add-on, BlockSite is not maintained by Mozilla, developers of Firefox.

    Click "HERE"
    Download and Install the uTorrent Client from http://www.utorrent.com/

  • Browse to a site that serves torrent files and peruse their list to find a file you want to download.

  • Click the link that provides you with the .torrent file. This file type will be recognized by uTorrent if you've set the option for it to do so. If it is not opened automatically by uTorrent, then save the .torrent file to your hard drive.

  • Run uTorrent and click "Add Torrent..." from the File menu. Select the .torrent file you saved in the previous step. The download item should appear in the main window. Once the program has found peers that are serving the file, it will begin downloading the file to your computer.

    Windows 7 Home Basic with the key you provided is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) version of Windows 7. These versions are auto-keyed/auto-activated with a BIOS check when booting to the media to install Windows.
    The only times it should prompt for a product key are:

    1. Installing the OS on a different brand system other than the OED brand it was designed to be installed on.
    2. Installing Windows from inside an already running install of Windows instead of booting to the Windows media.
    If this is the OEM system the OS shipped on and you are prompted for activation, flash the bios to the most current version and run the Microsoft WGA tools to clear the activation prompt.
    If this is not the OEM system the media shipped with, then you can't activate it.
    If you installed Windows without booting to the Media, then boot to the media and re-install Windows.
    If under warranty, contact the OEM warranty service as they provide support for OEM Windows.
