it cannot determine a heading, have you also damaged an internal antenna or positioning / gps device inside it? It is unsure which direction it is pointing in but uses triangulation to determine this.
That requires either an electronic compass unit, or gps to achieve correct heading and hence correct orientation of the radar image

Either you have a bad cable, or the motor has given up. Sometimes it can be the mod. board but the bearing pulse generator is located on the motor itself. Also check to see if theres a switch on the back.

You have to reset the Furuno to factory settings this will solve your problem.
The reset procedure is clearly available in the manual.The master reset will reset all the settings.
scanner unit is not having any problem.
Since you say you are not able to enter menu.There is some corruption in the firmware.
If you are not able to pass through menu,then you should call Furuno service center they would give you some set of keys to be pressed for each model it differs so the system gets to old factory settings and now you can configure it correctly.

saw this question and it intriugues ,so i started thinking which hurt i might add ,and the more i answered car questions the more it puzzled me.So i rang an old friend in england who worked on and installed radar in lancaster bombers during WW2 and his answer was all of them to an extent .The blind sector increases in relation to the other issues getting worse,but he is suffering a bit with alzeimers and i had a job getting off the phone because it was like he was still their as a young man,anyway he started going off about the transmitter wires ,not a dish?? needing dropping and cleaning but make sure i have a watchout working with me to keep an eye open for stukas whilst the radar was down .If i get like that?? anyway thats what he said if its any help .Ican always pass his number over in the UK if you can get some sense out of what he says

A 1942 is a 6 kw radar a 1720 is either a 1.5 or 2.2 kw dome. The two
will not work together. Besides the cabling is different. Also the
radar cable on a 1942 is round where as the 1720 is square. The 1942
display should work fine on a 1943 navnet radar.

The gain truned up and filling the screen with dots tells me the M.I.C. is Ok. Since you array fills with water, there is a very very good chance that the wave guide has given up. A good tell tale sign is that there is white powder laying on rectangular aperture located in the center when you raise the lid on the chassis. A new Array will probably be needed and that will cost you anywhere from $800.00 to 1200.00 just for the part. The water is probably getting in from the array from a bad install as well. normally the chasiss does not leak unless you did something wrong.

The user manual is easy to find but they post warnings if you try to open it up and state you should contact an authorized repair facility or the factory. I could not find one.
