It sounds like your speaker has failed. I would recommend replacing the speaker. You can take the radio to a marine electronics repair shop for the repair and it should be about $75 - $100. To my knowledge uniden have predominantly been in communication I go for the more mainstream brands in sounders.

I'll be honest with you Michelle, the radio is ancient. I saw a used one for sale here: https://edsgoodstuff.com/edscart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5942 and it went for $25. I don't think it's worth putting much into it. Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. -Steve

Hi. You'll find that difficult to get as the Ni-cad technology is pretty much obsolete. You could rebuild the battery pack with equivalent sized Ni-MH cells if you can get into it or look for the Alkaline battery holder (GHDZ34956Z) and use rechargeable cells in that. Unfortunately, Uniden won't part with their schematics cheaply. As a matter of fact, for about the same money you can buy a new VHF with DSC capability. A 6 amp fast blow fuse is usually enough for any marine VHF radio.

Hi! Although I'm not entirely sure what you wish to accomplish, I've included the link to the UM425 owners manual. If you're trying to enter your MMSI number (Page E-26), be aware that it can only be entered TWICE! After that, you must send the radio to Uniden to be reset. Hi I realize this question is old, but for the benefit of someone else who might have the same query, the NMEA 0183 outputs from the 4208 are the gray (+) and black (-) which go to the data in of your DSC VHF. The data OUT from your VHF connect to the white (+) and black (-) of the 4208. If using NMEA 2000, using the second link below, start on page 10. Hi Gil! Easy peasy. From your 6600, the data sends are the white wire NMEA (+) and the black wire (-). There are two black wires. Doesn't matter which one you use as they're interconnected anyway. To your UM425, the green wire is NMEA in and the bare wire is ground. So... white from 6600 to green and black from 6600 to bare. Hope this helps you out. -Steve
