Probably needs the cable adjusted. Put the lower unit on and adjust the cable per the instructions for your lower unit.

Sounds like your engine is flooding when in the trim down position. You might need new fuel jets in the carbs.

If plugs and wire are good, it's probably either the ignition coils or power pack and/or optical sensor.

Yes, disconnect the pistons and make sure the gears are in forward. You can lift (tilt) the lower unit up. I also suggest taking the pistons and tie them in an up position otherwise one or both pistons can extend. This is not a big problem, just you will need to cycle the pistons in to get them to align so you can reattach them.

Tightening clutch on capstan should fix the problrm

The engine runs off the magneto. Only uses the battery to start. Everything else runs off the battery. If the starter doesn't engage, it's most likely the battery circuit. Remove and clean the battery terminals, tighten and try again. If unsuccessful, try another battery.

Try the following. Ensure the connector going to the controller is secure. Remove power to the motor by stowing it. Wait until the remote screen goes blank. Deploy the motor to power it up verifying that the System Ready light comes back on when the motor is deployed. Press any button on the remote to turn it on. If F code returns then probably controller board will need replaced.

Could be a number of things such as, the cable needs adjusting, there is something blocking the shift cable from going into reverse all the way, the gears are somehow not aligned to mesh into reverse.

You have a trim tab under the cavitation plate(or you should, it looks like a little fin upside down..its right above the prop. Make sure it is nearly straight. Make sure your motor is not (mounted) too far down in the water. Power steering will HELP!!
