The drive suddenly stopped being detected by my

here is a general look at the drivers and how to update them if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x right click to reinstall drivers or if you can see your usb but its not working ports(com&lpt)right click update driver make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable, check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems hope this helps

you can open the case and remove the hard drive and install it in a new external usb case for it.
you can find out what type of case you need after you open it. it could be either a SATA connection or IDE.
If it is a SATA and you got a SATA cable/power you could also just install it directly into your computer and grab the files you need.

My computer recognizes this hard drive, but windows media player does not

With Windows Media Player open, hit the F3 key. You get an Add To Library window providing you with an option to sync folders from other sources...like an external hard drive. Select the option to add My folders and those of others I can access. Then you click the Add button. Now you can see the Add Folder window. Search for the folder where you stored your music on the external hard drive and select it. Then click the OK button. This will add the selected folder on the external hard drive to the list of synced folders. Once the Add Folder window disappears, Windows Media Player starts syncing the music and adding it to it's library.

I have a charger for my firelite FWFL60-N but I don't know what voltage to use

Power usage is stamed on the case.Don't go over recommended power input. It's also marked on the units power adapter as output.THAT's what you want to find out.Whatever the original adapter says for output on the case,is all that's required to operate.

When my dad died I found a firefly smartdisk device model USBFF20. how do i retreive information off of it. Can you help?

Most external memory drives tend to be "Plug and Play". Basically as long as you have the correct cable to connect it to a laptop or a PC you should be able to access the information on it. Plug it into you laptop/PC and give it at least 30 seconds for the computer to find and connect to it. Go to the File Explorer area of your computer and you should see it listed as an option to click on. This should give you access to whatever is on the drive.

I plugged in and powered on the SmartDisk CrossFire XF160 to my windows 8.1 pc, it automatically installed driver, but the drive does not appear in windows explorer. what can i do?

NO story told , first time used, this??? just bought it? is it new or used,? IDK any of that, and data matters. Ill assUme it is new with no precious data.... no PC stated, , w8.1 why not upgrade for free to w10? smart disk or any external HDD, or SSD, all need to be formatted first. you did only the last step. (first) #1 plug in the USB cable to a working USB port. 2: go to CP control panel then admin tools then computer management and last disk management or. 2b: in the run box type diskmgmt.msc 3: now diskmanagment is OPEN. 4: the drive shows up as a DISK NUMBER. only 5: right click your DISK seen in the list, do not pick Disk 0 6: make sure the DISK U picked size matches your external disk size.~~ 7: right click the DISK1 or what it is and pick new simple volume 8: right click disk1 and format it. to fat 32 or NTFS. 9: assign a drive letter to the new drive, (from now on the drive external shows up in windows explorer as drive letter same. that is it, same story on new empty USB thumb drive !
