Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807 Notebook Questions & Answers
Battery won't charge
Sounds like you have a broken AC plug. You can buy them cheap and disassemble the laptop and soldier the new one in but unless your electronically capable I wouldn't try it yourself. You can Google your laptop model number and watch videos to help if you insist on doing it yourself.

I have a Satellite A215-S4807.
There is something wrong with the "recharger" components on the computer's motherboard.
Instead of charging the battery, and then stopping the charging process, it is "draining" your batteries.
Take your Toshiba to the nearest qualified Toshiba service location, to get it fixed.

I have toshiba C655D-55136. even
Usually that long beep is indicating a hardware problem. To eliminate the hard Drive, Memory and Keyboard when you get the Toshiba Splash screen enter the Bios and there are options to test the Hard Drive and Memory if the keyboard functions to let you make those selections then the keyboard is good. If all three are good then that leaves the Video and Screen. Usually you can enter into Safe Mode and look at Device Manager and see if you have any error indicators on critical devices. The system will not give you that error beep for a network card or Phone Modem issue but will do that if the cooling fan on the CPU or Graphics cards does not work. The CD faulting out will not give you that warning either. I have had a few computers give me this same situation and all I did was start them in Safe Mode and then reboot and the problem resolved. Most likely this problem is the Keyboard, hard Drive, Memory or a cooling fan issue. Depending on how old the computer is you may have a clogged cooling system, this is especially true if you have it outside or traveling a lot or have long hair pets.

When the laptop is turned
The problem is not with the battery or the AC power supply
( I assume you tried pressing F8 safe mode before the loading screen appeared?)
Get into the Bios by pressing ( I think its F2 or F10) as soon as the laptop starts up (before loading screen).
Check in the main page, that the laptop "sees" the hard drive. If it does not, then the hard drive has failed. (you can check this by substituting another drive and seeing if the laptop recognizes this in the Bios).
See also that the DVD rom is recognised
In the Boot order screen, check that the boot order is set to 1st boot DVD/CD drive and the 2nd is set to hard drive.
Using a windows install disc, boot to CD and see if windows wants to install (if the hard drive is recognised in the Bios but has an internal fault, Windows will tell you before it installs the OS)
If the drive IS recognised and windows installs ok, let it go to the 2nd repair option, where it looks for previous installations of windows and let it repair the system (your files will not be wiped)
If Windows reports that there is no HDD, then you should try a spare HDD and see if it will format and install .
At best, it sounds like the MBR has been corrupted, in which case the over the top install above should fix it, at worst, the hard drive has failed and will need replacing

I PLUGGED IN MY LAPTOP
You may try this; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the NB. If the laptop will not boot by doing this, take it to the nearest repair center to have it check for possible motherboard issue.

Laptop will not power up past the Toshiba startup
Hi mauweis,
You can try to boot the system using
Safe Mode and try to see it it will be able to boot so that you will be able to backup your file. In addition to that you disable other programs that might be causing the system not to boot up. Go to
Safe Mode by reseting the computer then tapping
F8. If your able to acces safe mode follow these instructions:
1. Go to
Start then click on
RUN. 2. Type
MSCONFIG. 3. Go to
Services Tab, click
Hide Microsoft Services then click
Disable All.
4. Reboot the computer and see it it will go to normal mode. It you will be able to boot to normal mode it only means that one of the installed software is preventing windows to load.
5. if still cant boot you neet to reformat the system. You can use a
Recovery Disk that came with the system or you do a
Hard Disk Recovery. I've listed here the link of the manual on how to do a
Hard Disk Recovery. Manual 1 and
Manual 2
Thanks for using Fixya.

How to change dvd drive in toshiba satellite a215
Flip the laptop over and look for a screw about 4" in from the face of the drive. somewhere towards the middle of the face. Pull this screw, eject the tray and give a sharp tug to the tray and it should slide out. If it doesn't do not continue to force it.

SHUTS DOWN SEEMS TO BE OVERHEATING
hi..wow that seems to be allot of money just for a fan, if that is the case i would buy a new system at that price, if it is the fan it normally can be an easy job to replace it an not that expecive to buy either ime sure you could pic one up on ebay for a few bucks/pounds and might take you half hour to replace it...so really the ball is in your court so to speak, do you get another one, or replace the fan yourself?...
